Ottawa-area golfers can get in their first outdoor rounds of the new golf year while on a quick getaway later this week when Malone Golf Club opens for play on April 11.
“Although it is about three weeks later than the record early opening in 2012, the courses are in terrific condition as Mother Nature was kind to us this winter,” said Derek Sprague, general manager and PGA director of golf of the 36-hole facility in northern New York State.
For those returning to Malone Golf Club this season, they’ll witness some tremendous improvements on both courses.
“This past January, with the help of the USGA Turf Advisory Service, we removed several trees on holes No. 7, No. 11, No. 12, and No. 14 East as well as holes No. 2, No. 9, and No. 10 West,” said Sprague. “The removal of the trees will greatly improve sunlight and airflow to those greens. “The most significant changes for golfers will be on holes No. 11 East and No. 10 West. The looks of those holes are dramatically different now.”
The Malone Golf Club attended the Ottawa-Gatineau GolfExpo in March to promote its very popular golf packages.
“We partner with four lodging properties that are located only minutes away from the club,” Sprague said. “Those properties are Holiday Inn Express, Super 8, Four Seasons and the Econo Lodge. Golfers are able to enjoy a two-night/two-day golf package ranging for as low as $199 mid-week during off-peak times to $314 on weekends at peak times (CDN funds and taxes included).
All packages are based on double occupancy and include a power cart for the first round each day, breakfast each morning, a complementary short game lesson by a PGA Golf Professional (advance appointment required), golf club storage at the club and a souvenir bag tag.
For those looking for more than one round of golf per day, they can shoot a second round for only an $18 power cart fee per person (CDN funds).
Players keen of getting in a third day of golf need only to add $55 (CDN funds) to the cost of their packages.
Malone Golf Club is located southeast of Cornwall about 150 klicks from Ottawa.
