With a first half lead, it looked as if Tulsa was going to upset a surprising Tulane team. But it was not to be as the Golden Hurricane fell in a 14-7 defeat to the Green Wave Saturday in New Orleans.
Tulsa took the lead first as Trey Watts scored from one yard three seconds into the second quarter. It would be TU’s only points of the day as the Green Wave scored the rest.
Tulane tied the score with 42 seconds remaining before halftime, as Devin Powell threw a 19-yard TD pass to Justyn Shackleford. The Green Wave then took the lead at 14-7 as Powell hooked up with Ryan Grant for a TD reception with 7:29 left in the third quarter.
Red-shirt freshman Dane Evans made his first career start at quarterback as Cody Green was sidelined with an injury. The Tulsa offense generated 344 yards of offense but committed four turnovers.
TU reached the Tulane 30-yard line four times. In the three times it did not score, it missed a field goal and was picked off twice.
The Golden Hurricane return home to meet UTSA (2-5, 1-2) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
