Golden Globes begin Hollywood awards season with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler (Video)

Hollywood's Foreign Press Association kicks off its 70th awards program tonight, the Golden Globes, with stunning red carpet gowns, sitcom stars Tina Fey and Poehler as hosts, and of course, 26 trophies to give away.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved to be a great team as they opened the show with a series of one-liners directed at various members of the audience.

Directed at former host, Ricky Gervais, Poehler said the duo intended to do a great job, because "when you run afoul of the Hollywood Foreign Press, they make you host the show two more times."

She continued with a pointed remark about James Cameron, formerly married to Katherine Bigelow. "I don't know that much about Zero Dark Thirty, but when it comes to torture I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron," a remark that elicited both laughs and shocked "ooohs" from the audience.

Fey also had her share of laughs, including her remark about Anne Hathaway's performance of "On My Own" in "Les Miserables."

"I have never seen anyone alone and so abandoned like that since you were on stage with James Franco at the Oscars," she commented--a remark that Hathaway didn't seem to disagree with.

"Meryl Streep is not here. She has the flu and I hear she is amazing in it," remarked Poehler.

Stars also showed off the gowns and answered the obligatory "what are you wearing" questions for the media. To see red carpet arrivals, see the slideshow.

Stay tuned for more Golden Globes updates.
