As with any awards show, there were a mixture of fashion hits and misses for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards show. The fashion trends mostly seen during the night included the illusion neckline, keyhole/deep v-neckline, thigh-high front split and backless gowns. The most dominant colors included white, black, red and flesh-toned.
Kate Hudson wore a beautiful Alexander McQueen black fitted gown with gold detailed accents around the neckline and waist, a deep v-neckline and fishtail train.
Kerry Washington wore a semi-sheer, mid-calf, blush Miu Miu dress with silver crystalline designs around the bust and front of dress.
Taylor Swift was ravishing in her plum colored, backless mermaid gown.
Jennifer Lopez’ dress left little to be imagined. A double-take would have been appropriate to ensure the singer/actress was actually wearing a full dress. It was a combination of semi-sheer, flesh toned fabric with white lace covering the appropriate body parts.
As with several other attendees, Eva Longoria went bold with a thigh-high front split on her black Emilio Pucci gown. The lace bodice was adorned with a deep v-neckline and gathered full, sheer skirt.
While Heidi Klum and Lea Michele both opted for white gowns, Klum’s dress looked more appealing and fitted to her body, with a jeweled neckline. Lea’s dress, although beautifully adorned with beading, appeared to be too heavy a fabric for the actress to carry on her petite frame; as was the case with Anne Hathaway’s two-piece white, beaded dress. This is the second time in a week Anne chose to go neutral with her fabric choices, whereas she should have opted for some color.
A few disappointments of the evening included Lucy Liu’s Carolina Herrera gown. The fitted bodice and full skirt adorned with large flowers, gave more of the appearance of Lucy being a part of a huge garden scene instead of an awards ceremony.
Helena Bonham Carter's black, lace and sheer Dolce and Gabbana dress, accessorized with a large 'red lips' handbag, made her look as though she was preparing for a Mary Poppins’ scene.
It is safe to say we will continue to see the fashion trends go towards the daring with the deep necklines, high splits, backless gowns and flesh toned materials.
