Sunday night, January 12, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will host its 71st annual Golden Globe Awards. The awards, given for both film and television, will be broadcast live on television from the Beverly Hilton. When and where may interested viewers tune in?

According to HFPA, the broadcast will begin on the East coast at 8:00 p.m. on NBC. The show is co-hosted again this year by comedic actors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Winners will be announced in 25 categories related to film and television that include directors, writers, composers, and actors. Interested viewers may find the full list of this year's Golden Globe nominees here.

The Golden Globes are known among regular viewers to be a different kind of awards show than the Academy Awards that will take place weeks later.

Differences in the two programs include the fact that the Golden Globes award both television and film, so audiences' favorite performers in both media may be present. The awards ceremony also takes place as part of a banquet and dinner party, so television viewers can watch while actors, directors, and others mingle and socialize between award presentations.

Frequently, the Golden Globe nominees and winners in the film categories are used as a bell weather for what films and performances may garner the attention of Oscar. According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Oscar nominations will be announced this week, January 16, and the statuettes will be presented on March 2.
