The 70th Annual Golden Globes was like a repeat of winners from last year’s Emmy Awards Sunday night on NBC. “Homeland” and “Game Change” ruled their respective categories in TV series- drama and TV movie or miniseries. Winning in the acting department were Damian Lewis and Claire Danes in their Showtime series on terrorism. It was Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin and Ed Harris as Senator John McCain in “Game Change,” HBO’s brilliant movie about the 2008 presidential campaign. In Tampa Bay the Golden Globes were seen on Bright House Networks WFLA, channel 7.
Don Cheadle’s win was a pleasant change from the Emmys template for his leading role in the comedy series “House of Lies.” Maggie Smith was a no show for supporting role in “Downton Abbey.” Co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler had the crowd laughing each time they took to the podium. During the early part in the telecast they posed as a sixth nominee in some categories disguised in hideous costumes and makeup. Hopefully they’ll be a main staple in hosting future awards shows.
