Golden Globes 2011 : Jewelry trend alert

When it comes to awards show - any awards show - you're bound to see the most fabulous array of jewels and gems on the planet. And this year's 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards show was no exception.  Everywhere we looked,  everyone we saw pulled out all the stops with baubles and bangles from some of Beverly Hills biggest designers.

But from a trend standpoint,  we saw bracelets take center stage in a way they never have before . From jewel encrusted bangles and art deco style  pave link bracelets  worn by Halle Berry, Scarlett Johannsen and Jennifer Love Hewitt, to large, Wonder Woman style cuffs ( ala Claire Danes) , to stacks and stacks of bangles reminiscent of the Bollywood scene  as worn by Kyra Sedgewyk ,  there was nary a naked arm among the best dressed!

But if you’re thinking one, maybe two bracelets per arm, guess again. The trend going forward is to “pile em on”  wearing two, three, four even six bracelets per arm.

And of course, what would any  awards show be without those  large, glitzy statement earrings – and this year the glam girls did not disappoint us!   Among the most prominent looks were again, that art deco era style with lots of pave chandeliers taking front and center stage. Among those wearing the look the best:   Vanessa Williams,  winner Katey Segal,   superstar Katherine Zeta Jones, Tiny Fey,  and Sophia Vergara.

On the other end of the big earring spectrum were the cool, modern look of a super large teardrop in bling-bright colors.  Giuliana Rancic wore them in coral (stunning with a black gown) while Kyra Sedgewyk did them in turquoise paired with a bright orange gown for a WOW color combo.   Nicole Kidman wore a stunning black crystal chandelier,  and  who could forget scene stopping “Bollywood” style earrings worn by Jane Krakowsky – beaded and dangly and oversized.  Making a statement for the edgy earring, Elizabeth Moss, with a mound of dangly chains from a chandelier top!

What made the look work for all these women:  Keeping the dress simple and leaving the  neckline free.

Fashion Classics Make A Surprise Return

Perhaps the biggest jewelry surprise of the evening was the return of  THE STUD.  No, we’re not talking Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp – though they were there and take it from us,  they were definitely worth ogling.

But we're  talking earring studs – and this year’s Red Carpet proved that the classic ‘wear-em-anywhere’ style  is always in fashion.  Among the many wearing the look :  Eva Longoria,  Jennifer Love Hewitt,  Natalie Portman, Julianne Hough,  Mila Jojovitch, Michelle Williams, and Hallie Berry – all  with clear diamond studs -  and Angelina Jolie in stunning emerald studs to match her dress.

Another jewelry classic making a return this year:  The 1950's style button clip sparkle earring  as worn by both Lea Michelle and Jennifer Lopez,  as well as a small button style earrng worn by Ann Hathaway.  And never was there a better reason to shop vintage - they all  made the look work incredibly well!
