Golden Globe winners. Will Oscar award the same nominees? (Video)

The major categories winners of the Golden Globes are often similar to the major winners for Oscar. To have a good shot at figuring winners of the Oscars, one must also figure in the best director/film winner of the DGA, (Directors Guild of American), awards.

Best picture nominees for Golden Globe were:

"Argo"
"Django Unchained"
"Life of Pi"
"Lincoln"
"Zero Dark Thirty"

Winner- "Argo," This category must have been difficult for all voters. Each film is outstanding. "Argo" has nominations all over the place and has won four awards for best picture from different critic societies and industry entities.

I think people were surprised when "Lincoln" or "Zero Dark Thirty" didn't win. "Argo" is a daring film and that is probably the reason it was awarded. It is also a good film, but they all were.

Best actress in a motion picture (drama)

Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty")
Marion Cotillard ("Rust and Bone")
Helen Mirren ("Hitchock")
Naomi Watts ("The Impossible")
Rachel Weisz ("The Deep Blue Sea")

Winner- Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty") Jessica probably won because she appeared in a better film and she's very talented.

Best actor in a motion picture (drama)

Daniel Day Lewis ("Lincoln")
Richard Gere ("Arbitrage")
John Hawkes ("The Sessions")
Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master")
Denzel Washington ("Flight")

Winner Joaquin Phoenix

A lot of people familiar with movies were surprised "The Master" didn't get more nominations. This reviewer is surprised that Mr. Phoenix received a nomination due to his rants against the Oscars. Perhaps a message was being sent.

Best motion picture (comedy or musical)

"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"
"Les Miserables"
"Moonrise Kingdom"
"Salmon Fishing in the Yemen"
"Silver Linings Playback"

Winner-"Les Miserables" Simple reason, "Les Mis" was the best film.

Best actress (comedy or musical)

Emily Blount "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen"
Judi Dench "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"
Jennifer Lawrence "Silver Linings Playbook"
Maggi Smith "Quartet"
Meryl Streep "Hope Springs"

Winner Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer was up against some of the best actresses in the business. How did she stand out? Lawrence isn't even close to hitting her stride, she's an amazing actress herself. The reason she stood out was because she's done such dark films in the last couple of years and this film is lighter fare.

Best actor in a motion picture (Comedy or musical)

Jack Black "Bernie"
Bradley Cooper "Silver Linings Playbook"
Hugh Jackman "Les Miserables"
Even McGregor "Salmon Fishing on the Yemen"
Bill Murray "Hyde Park on Hudson

Winner Hugh Jackman. Cooper had a good chance, but Jackman is not only good, the film is very good.

Best animated film

"Brave"
"Frankenweenie"
"Hotel Transylvania"
"Rise of the Gaurdian"
"Wreck-it-Ralph""

2012 was full of excellent animated films. Some years it's difficult to think of more than two or three. This year there were five strong films. "Rise of the Guardians" was the best film, however, "Brave" walked away with the prize. This was a big field and "Brave" was also a great film. "Rise of the Guardians" was a film that will be a classic. Why "Brave" won is because it was a big field. All five films are excellent.

Best director

Ben Affleck "Argo"
Kathryn Bigelow "Zero Dark Thirty"
Ang Lee "Life of Pi"
Steven Spielberg "Lincoln"
Quintin Tarantino "Django Unchanged"

Winner-"Argo" It's Ben Affleck's year, he is an amazing actor/director. Bigelow is an excellent director also. Both films deal with the Middle East.

The other films all had that special something, but "Argo" won. Subject matter probably had something to do with this win. "Argo" was just a bit better than "Zero Dark Thirty."

The DGA awards have nominated Ben Affleck , Kathryn Bigelow, Ang Lee, Spielberg and Tom Hooper.

With Bigelow and Affleck off the Oscar list, that leaves the door wide open for Spielberg.
