Golden Globe gowns, hit or miss? (slideshow)

The 67th Golden Globe Awards began on a wet red carpet, with stars, in gorgeous gowns, being escorted by umbrella toting helpers. Some dresses were vibrant and colorful and were impressive with that special "wow" factor, while others did nothing for the wearer, and in some cases detracted from their beauty.

Sandra Bullock was a clear winner in a purple chiffon Bottega Veneta gown.

Jennifer Aniston presented a look of style and grace in a long black gown that showed off her toned right leg and thigh.

Drew Barrymore sparkled in a Atelier Versace skin-colored gown with crystals on her left shoulder and right hip.

Penelope Cruz was beguiling in a Giorgio Armani Privé black horizontal-striped lace fishtail gown, which was similar in style to the smoke gray Roberto Cavalli that was worn by Heidi Klum.

A stunning Fergie wore a lavender Elie Saab gown with gentle pleats.

Kate Hudson modeled an other-worldly white Marchesa gown that was reminiscent of the Jetsons. Christina Aguilera was in a peach Versace with a metallic bodice that hinted at a space destination, as well.

Jennifer Garner showed off her toned arms and fit upper torso in a beaded mauve Atelier Versace gown.

Cameron Diaz wore a red Alexander McQueen dress with capped sleeves that gave her an air of maturity.

Nicole Kidman wore a pale peach Nina Ricci gown that matched the color of her pale skin.

Newcomer Lea Michele was breathtaking in a black strapless ruffled Oscar de la Renta gown.

Maggie Gyllenhaal's Roland Mouret dress was peach-colored with fabric strategically placed in abstract fashion.

Olivia Wilde wore a dark-gray beaded Gucci gown with a plunging neckline.

January Jones wore a unique black fitted dress that had an unusual ruffle on her left shoulder.
