Golden Boy signs 19-year-old welterweight Saul Alvarez

A recent free-agent signing frenzy by Golden Boy Promotions continues, as the Los Angeles-based firm announced their inking of a deal with 19-year-old Mexican rising star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Alvarez, a welterweight with a record of 30 wins, no losses, and one draw, is eyeing a world title bout for 2010 and is ranked #4 to WBC champion Andre Berto, #7 to WBA champion Shane Mosley, and #5 to WBO champion Manny Pacquiao.

"The opportunity to work with Golden Boy is definitely one that I could not pass up as I feel it will help me achieve my goal of reaching my full potential as a fighter and becoming a huge success in boxing," said Alvarez upon signing with Golden Boy.

Alvarez is the latest in a string of free-agent signings by Golden Boy which included East Los Angeles' Sergio Mora and former heavyweight champion John Ruiz.
