According to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport website on Saturday, the University of Alberta Golden Bears won their seventh national volleyball championship in their school history at Jack Simpson Gymnasium in Calgary.

The Golden Bears defeated the University of Western Mustangs in straight sets, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16.
Ranked number one in Canada heading into this weekend's national championship, the University of Alberta got double digit point performances from three players---right side hitter Kevin Proudfoot of Calgary, Alberta with 12.5 points, and left side hitters Ryley Barnes of St. Paul, Alberta with 12 points and Jay Olmstead of Edmonton with 10 points.

Barnes also led the Golden Bears with 12 kills and eight digs. Proudfoot and Calgary native Brett Walsh also had three services aces to lead Alberta.

The Golden Bears won nine of ten sets this weekend as they beat the University of Montreal Carabins in the quarterfinal and the University of Laval Rouge et Or in the semi-finals.
