'Gold Rush Alaska' 1/20 preview: Hoffman's are so close but yet so far still!

"Gold Rush Alaska" is coming close to the end of the mining season and the Hoffman crew is still struggling. The men stood overlooking a hole that they dug about the size of a football field last week that was glistening in the sun from all the gold. The earth has a bounty of this precious metal to offer, it’s just that these novices cannot get it together for a long enough period of time to get the gold out of the dirt in substantial amounts. They’ve conquered all their other problems, including finding a claim that offers an abundance of this rare metal, but they don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to mining and last week they admitted this.

It’s like that old saying, "so close, but yet so far," as the gold is there, but they can’t get it out of the ground, at least not in quantity. They can see it and actually pick up the tiny shards with the tip of their fingers, but they would never harvest enough of it by hand to even pay for their supplies at the camp. The Hoffman’s have to master the gold wash machine, as it’s been one error after another when it comes to getting this huge piece of machinery to do its job. It can only be efficient if it’s set at the right angle, is supplied with the correct amount of water pressure and the water is clean enough so it won’t clog up the filters. These are the three things that have plagued these modern day gold rush characters so far this season.

"Gold Rush Alaska" January 20 episode previews:

"The  Hoffman crew is dead in the water until Harness can repair their broken excavator. Parker Schnabel totals his gold for the season and hands the Big Nugget mine back to his grandpa. Meanwhile, the Dakota boys lock horns trying to re-open their mine," according to the "Gold Rush Alaska" homepage.

At the close of the episode last week, Parker had pulled more gold out of the ground than the other two camps put together, at 16 he has to leave early, before the season closes because he’s still in high school and classes are starting. The previews suggest that the Hoffman’s suffer another delay with yet another machine related break-down, this time it’s the excavator and without that, there’s not dirt being scooped out of the ground.
