Gold-n-red: The Gwinnett Deltas and McDonald's Red Night Project

McDonald's; it's a name synonymous with leadership as being the leader in traditional "fast-food" sales blended with healthier eating options for varied appetites.  Likewise, with campaigns such as McDonald's 365 Black, it celebrates the past, present, and future contributions of the African-American community and its impact on our communities, country, and world.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc; it is among the most esteemed and highly respected Black Greek Letter Organizations known locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.  Since its inception January 13, 1913, leaders and community advocates from all walks of life, ranging from Dr. Dorothy Height, Myrlie Evers-Williams, Shirley Chisholm, and former Mayor of Atlanta Shirley Franklin, maintain an ever-present presence via their Five Point Programmic Thrust centering on economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement.

The Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, since March 8, 2003, provides a steady presence in the Gwinnett County community building upon the tennants of its larger sorority combined with innovative means in addressing civic and community matters and areas of concern of the population it serves.  Just as is done on their launch on September 27th (Chamblee location), the chapter, through its Delta Red Night, is partnering with McDonald's to provide continued support for its community endeavors.

On Tuesday, October 25th, from 5-8pm at the Lawrenceville location (1414 Pleasant Hill Road), a portion of all purchases are donated to the chapter to support its public service projects and scholarship programs.  In addition to bringing out family members, friends, and other colleagues for a good outing and meal, patrons are able to support programs and endeavors that are firmly entrenched in community uplift and outreach.

Future Red Nights are scheduled for November 29th (in Snellville) and December 20th (in Norcross).

In addition to partronizing featured McDonald's restaurants, supporters can go to any McDonald's in the metro-Atlanta area and purchase the fruit and maple oatmeal or the strawberry lemonade; after making the purchase, patrons can send the original receipt directly to the chapter, which provides monetary support for the chapter's public service and scholarship programs.

Creatively creating a constructive impact in their community is the focus of the Gwinnett County Deltas, along with that of their fellow alumnae and undergraduate chapters.  Through their partnership with McDonald's, they are able to make a positive difference in their immediate and surrounding communities.
