Going to the wrong place on a date can ruin the mood or change the tone of your date. Here are some spots to avoid.
China Blue
This dance club has watery, overpriced drinks, rude staff, and snotty college kids for clientele. If you want to pay a premium to look fashionable, you are better off upstairs at the Knitting Factory.
Berryhill & Co. Restaurant
Good food and decent service, but at a high price - and it lacks the casually intimate atmosphere you'll want for dating. Save this otherwise great restaurant for something special, like an anniversary or Valentine's Day.
Lock, Stock & Barrel
While this is a good place to have a business lunch, the atmosphere doesn't hold well for dating. The food is filling and well priced, and the drinks are acceptable, but the mood of the place is like a used car lot. Taking her here is almost like saying you just want to be friends.
Red Feather Lounge
Save yourself the trouble of visiting here and check out Bad Irish just down the street. While not a bad bar, Red Feather Lounge is mediocre in all respects, and hurts from the ills of other downtown bars - namely, the clueless frat-boy types dressed in California's hand-me-down fashions from last year. If you want to look like a poser, this may be the place for you. Otherwise, there are better places in the same area.
Hijinx Comedy Club
This club is a great place to take a first date that has expressed an interest in comedy. For anybody else, it can be a nightmare of unfunny comedians who try too hard. Only recommended if you need an excuse to get away early. As a consolation, the cheap well drinks can give you something to ease the suffering of listening to the comedy.
