The first teaser trailer from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures reboot of Godzilla hit the internet Tuesday, Dec. 10.

The two-minute trailer opens up with David Straithairn giving his soldiers a pep talk before they drop into a city under attack and partially destroyed by the monstrous lizard himself.

“Your courage will never be more needed than it is today,” Straithairn tells his soldiers as they prepare for battle.

It continues with a series of shots of the chaos caused by the gigantic monster who makes a brief appearance towards the end of the clip.

Helmed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters), this version of the 1954 sci-fi classic is filled with action packed visual effects which sets up a darker tone of the movie.

An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, and Breaking Bad’s alumni Bryan Cranston.

Godzilla hits theaters May 16, 2014.
