'Godzilla' targets Aaron Johnson (Video)

Just a few days after The Walking Dead show runner Frank Darabont was tapped to finalize the script for the Godzilla reboot, Legendary Pictures is eyeing actor Aaron Johnson for the lead role. Deadline reported on Thursday, Jan. 10 that Johnson is being considered for the role, but won't make a final decision until the script is complete. The reboot is scheduled for release on May 16, 2014.

Johnson is well known for his role in the superhero inspired film Kick-Ass (2010) and will also appear in the upcoming sequel. He recently had roles in the action thriller Savages (2012) and the period piece Anna Karenina (2012).

The legendary monster will return to the big screen in a film which will explore the origin of his existence. The Japanese creature has appeared in dozens of films over the past few decades as well as television shows, books and video games. Production on the Warner Bros. Pictures project is expected to begin in early March with Gareth Edward directing.
