A marble sculpture head of Artemis from the fourth century BC has been uncovered in the ancient city of Alabanda, Turkey, as the archaeological excavations there come to a close. Suat Ateslier from the Aydin Adnan Menderes University Archaeology Department said the sculpture is in very good condition and very valuable. Apparently this year geophysical analysis has shown another goddess temple is yet to be uncovered when the archaeologists return to the site to excavate next year. The site is located in Cine, in the Aegean province of Aydin. To see the sculpture of Artemis, you can click here: http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/alabanda-reveals-a-goddess-sculpture.as...
Turning our attention to Egypt, a 71 inch tall statue of Sekhmet, the Egyptian lion-headed Goddess, was discovered while excavations were going on in a Temple of Mut in Luxor. Egyptian authorities cite the granite statue as belonging to the epoch of Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1390-1352 B.C.) some 700 kilometers (about 435 miles) south of Cairo.
The Egyptian Antiquities Ministry announced Tuesday in a communique that the statue was found near the famous Karnak temple complex.
