Developing a love of reading in a young child is imperative. Unfortunately, 61% of low-income families have no books at all in their homes for their children. The lack of exposure can lead to a learning detriment when starting school. Working toward correcting the lack of books issue, the Goddard School is hosting a book drive.
The Goddard Schools located in Naperville, along with 16 other Goddard School locations throughout Chicagoland aims to collect over 30,000 new and gently used books by January 18th. The Goddard Schools located at 1032 104th Street and 1928 Springbrook Square Drive will be hosting an Open House and Book Drive full of seasonal fun on Saturday, January 18 from 10AM – 12PM. Special guests including storyteller Keith Cobb will read stories with the children and their families.
On January 23rd, which is National Reading Day, all 18 Goddard Schools located in Chicago will come together at Bernie’s Book Bank located at 28101 Ballard Drive, Lake Forest, IL 60045 to present 30,000 books and a $10,000 donation for their future 40,000 sq. ft. facility.
Consider donating a book to the Goddard School book drive. A good book for a child can create a lifetime love of reading.
