God vs. Barack Obama

God or Obama? Who's wisdom is more reliable?
God or Obama? Who's wisdom is more reliable?
Examiner collage via,

It’s staggering really. People who otherwise appear to be sincere, devout Christians who deign to support, defend, and even laud praise upon president Barack Hussein Obama, despite his pernicious and overtly anti-Christian, worldviews.

It’s one thing to respect, to a degree, the one who occupies the office of “the most powerful man on earth.” It’s quite another to do so without analysis or critique of what the person stands for.

In the experience of this Examiner, it is noteworthy that black Christians tend to stand behind Mr. Obama at a largely disproportionate ratio compared to white Christians. The argument has been made that white Christians are racists because they tend to reject the ideology of the man. One might also proffer that black Christians would shun a white man whose ideas were consistent with Obama’s. In either case, it’s a circular, unworthy argument that no one would ever win.

Setting aside the racial component, as it should be, what follows is an examination of what the God of the Bible (through his emissaries the prophets) has to say about a couple of the more prevalent and imperative “social issues” facing America, versus the stated beliefs of the president of the United States. In it reveals a man’s outlook that makes it difficult to reconcile his claims to be a Christian.

God on life:

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you;… Jeremiah 1:5

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well… Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. Psalm 139:13-14, 16

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;… Psalm 127:3-5

Barack Obama on life (abortion):

I may be opposed to abortion for religious reasons, but if I seek to pass a law banning the practice, I cannot simply point to the teachings of my church or evoke God’s will.

I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old, I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby.

Obama, Illinois Senate floor, 2001 rallying support AGAINST the Born Alive Infant Protection Act:

Number one, whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we’re really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a – a child, a nine-month-old – child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it – it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an antiabortion statute.

God on sex & marriage:

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Hebrews 13:4

…each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. 1 Corinthians 7:2

Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. Genesis :22-24

Specifically on homosexuality:

God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. Romans 1:26-27

Barack Obama on sex & marriage:

The government has to treat all citizens equally. I am a strong supporter not of a weak version of civil unions, but of a strong version, in which the rights that are conferred at the federal level to persons who are part of the same-sex union are compatible.

I was reminded that it is my obligation not only as an elected official in a pluralistic society, but also as a Christian, to remain open to the possibility that my unwillingness to support gay marriage is misguided...

I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages…

[Homosexuality is a] fundamental freedom and universal human right.

I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.

Where God says to refrain from sexual immorality, Barack Obama says to embrace it as a fundamental freedom and universal human right.

Where God says a man and woman shall become one flesh, Obama says it’s just as acceptable for two men, or two women to become one flesh.

What God deems unnatural and degrading, Barack Obama affirms and champions.

What God calls gifts and rewards (children) Mr. Obama calls “punishment.”

How Christians, who supposedly believe in the autonomous virtue of the Holy Bible, the mode through which we know all God wants us to know about him, can also endorse Barack Hussein Obama, the person and politician, is very much a mystery.
