A Daily Word from the Word for Wednesday, October 9, 2013
“I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in Your Word.” –Psalm 119:147
We need to hope in God’s Word because God’s Word is the Eternal Truth which is life (Psalm 119:160, Isaiah 40:8, John 6:63). It is by God’s Word that everything, including us, was created (John 1:1-3). It is by God’s Word that we defeat the powers and strategies of the enemy (2 Corinthians 10:4). It is by God’s Word that we are guided (John 16:13-15).
What does it mean to hope in God’s Word? The Hebrew word for “hope” as used in this verse is yachal (pr. yaw-chal) which means “to wait, to be patient, to be pained, stay, tarry, trust” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). The Psalmist placed his hope in God’s Word. Despite the painful process he was going through, despite what his flesh or mind was saying, despite what his emotions were screaming out, despite what his circumstances accused him of, despite the taunting and ridiculing voice of the enemy; this faithful child of the Most High King maintained his hope in God’s Word!
The definition “to be pained” jumped out at me. Sometimes maintaining hope in God’s Word is painful, and it is okay to say this! The Psalmist did! When we place our hope in God’s Word, it brings about the crucifying of our flesh (Galatians 5:24), “it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). When you choose to put your hope in God’s Word, His sword comes out and starts performing much-needed surgery!
How are you doing with your hope, my brother? Is your Hope-O-Meter reading at a God-pleasing, God-moving level, my sister? Or is it on empty? What are you doing with your hope these days? Have you tucked it away in your back pocket, or placed it in a parasitic circumstance? Or is it still on the altar of the Father (where it needs to be), reminding Him every day that you are His responsibility?
One of my favorite scriptures in the Word of God (the Bible) is Romans 4:18, where Abraham, who is known as the Father of Faith is described as “who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.” Abraham had the best kind of hope! The most expensive kind! This hope comes at great expense. It comes at great pain, but it is the richest kind of hope and yields the greatest reward! It is the creme-de-la-crème of hope!
Family, once you have pressed through to some of this extravagant hope, this hope against hope, this hope in the center of hope itself, you have just broken through above every opposing force, you have just launched yourself into the stratosphere! You are soaring on the wings of eagles above every storm! Oh the oxygen up here is thin, my brothers and sisters; but the hope is thick, rich, and delicious!
Our hope is in God’s Word, which is His dabar (pr. daw-bawr). God’s Word is the matter that He Spoke into existence, it is His course of action, His provision, His chronicles, His Commandments, His Message, His Power, His Promise, His Purpose, His Reason, His Tidings, His Work! (Strong’s). Jesus, can you feel the anointing of the Living God on His Word right now?! Let it saturate your spirit! Let it break every yoke off of you! Let it free you from every bondage! Let it liberate you!
My brothers and sisters, sow your seed of hope into God’s Word. For God’s Word is your Provision, your Promise, your Reason for living. God’s Word is not only Good Ground, it is The Defining, Superlative, Supernatural Ground from which every great manifestation in your natural world springs forth! So put your hope here, child of the Most High King, for your Father will never leave you ashamed or disappointed!
Father, we thank You for Your Word. Thank You that our hope is in You, which is Your Word. Most Holy God, You hold our hope in your Hands, for which we are so profoundly grateful. Father, we yearn for the hope against all hope, which is the most victorious and richest kind of hope! We call on You now for a supernatural deposit of this great Hope. And we thank You for doing this supernatural work of hope in us. In Jesus Name, we thank You that our hope is in You.
Take Action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to spend more time sowing your seed of hope in God’s Eternal Ground. Choose to come into agreement with God’s Word concerning you and your life. Choose to forsake every circumstance and every opposing thing (including your own mind, emotions, will, and flesh) that tries to rise up against your hope. Do not allow these defeating voices to convince you to sow your hope into their empty and destructive ground; instead, silence them with the Promises of God, our Eternal Hope! And continue to fight the good fight of hoping in God’s Word; for God, your Hope Springs Eternal, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
