“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6a
God has impressed me to dig deeper for His revelation concerning the nature of destruction that occurs from lacking a certain type of knowledge. What knowledge, if lacked, causes us to be destroyed? We need to equip ourselves with this knowledge which will help fortify us from becoming undone.
God, through His divine power, has already given us “all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3). If God gave us all things to be successful and to navigate victoriously while on this earth, then it is critical that we identify what we do not recognize or know, and to understand what we do not comprehend.
The Hebrew word for “destroyed” as used in this verse is damah (pr. daw-maw) which means “to be dumb or silent, to perish, be undone” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). The biggest weapon we have, as a child of the Most High King, is our mouth. The Word of God tells us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit (Proverbs 18:21). The Father of all knowledge promises “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). The psalmist King David tells us in Psalm 68 that our praise is a weapon of warfare which scatters the enemy.
When, with our mouth, we cannot speak and come into agreement with God’s Word concerning us, then we cannot activate the blessings of heaven that are stored up for us; nor can we speak life to those things that need to rise up within us and our lives. The keys to binding and loosing drop down from Heaven when we sync up our words with the Word of God. Without these keys, we cannot call upon the backing of heaven.
“Knowledge” in the Hebrew is daath (pr. dah-ath) which is “cunning, wittingly, designation, prognosticator.” Webster’s Dictionary defines “cunning” as “attaining an end, displaying keen insight;” and further defines “insight” as “the act or power of seeing into a situation, the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively.” Wow! Imagine if we had the power to correctly read into every situation which resulted in victory every time! Imagine if we had such a finely tuned intuition, an amazing inner witness, that we rarely got it wrong! Guess what, family, we do. God already gave it to us through His Holy Spirit. It is His knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 4:7 testifies “wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom, and in all your getting, get understanding.”
A prognosticator is someone who can “foretell from signs or symptoms.” Do you know this power is available to us as well? According to 1 Chronicles 13:32, the sons of Issachar did. These sons had an understanding of times and events, they knew how to read the times and seasons for clues to what was to come and how to prepare.
Isaiah 5:13 paints a bleak reality of a life lived through lacking knowledge: “therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge; their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.”
Are you in captivity, my brother? Can’t seem to make ends meet, my sister? Can’t figure out what to do right now? Does it seem like you, more times than not, make the wrong decision? Do you feel that every time you take one step forward, you end up taking three steps back? Then put down the knowledge of the world, which will always leave you lacking; and pick up an understanding of the times as God sees them. How do you go about this? I’m glad you asked. Now it’s time to ask your Father. He is waiting to tell you.
Father, thank You that You have already given us everything pertaining to life and godliness through You. Most Wise Father, we call on You now to enlighten the eyes of our understanding that we may know the hope of Your calling (Ephesians 1:18); and to open our eyes, that we may see wondrous things from Your law (Psalms 119:18). In Jesus Name, we thank You that we are no longer destroyed, no longer being undone, and we are no longer in captivity, because You have freed us! Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to start seeking God’s wisdom, knowledge, and understanding through reading His Word and fellowshipping with Him daily. Start calling to your Father and asking Him to reveal those things which you do not know (Jeremiah 33:3). Begin a daily habit of thanking your Holy God for imparting into you His wisdom and knowledge. Start a study on the book of Proverbs. And continue to fight the good fight of never lacking knowledge again; for God, your Knowledge Base, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
