I spoke with a friend recently whose church had a guest speaker-a woman missionary who works in Sudan where over 2 millions African Christians have been killed for their faith by the Islamic government in the north. She said, all the world is watching America now in regards I guess to the government shutdown and other crises. And the missionary said these people around the world also know that if America goes down, the rest of the world goes down.
A few years ago, I heard a talk by Miriam "Hansi" Hirschman, the former Nazi youth girl who was seduced by Hitler's spell like so many until she came to Christ and to America to become a citizen. Still traveling around the world in her 80s telling the Good News of Jesus, she told me afterwards what I had heard before from other people who lived in Germany when Hitler rose to power-that America is very much like Germany when Hitler did rise to power-like most tyrants often promising "hope and change" apparently. But she also said what the missionary to Sudan said.
Hansi travels all over the world, and she talks to people from many nations who tell her they look to America as a beacon of hope--that if America's light goes out, that the world will become a very dark place. And both women mean that the United States is the last human power standing in the way of tyrannical thugs, would-be dictators and terrorists-and powerful global elitists-who want to impose their dark reign of terror on the world. Of course God is in control and we are all dependent on Him--but He has used these United States-in spite of our many flaws, especially since we have turned so greatly from God-to be His agency to hold the forces of darkness and evil in check to a great extent.
Yes, the United States in the last half of the past century especially has not always used our power wisely or righteously, but that again is greatly due to our nation turning from God and the subtle influence of globalist powers behind the scenes. But as Abraham Lincoln said, our nation will never be conquered militarily from external enemies, but only from within. So after a progressive spiritual and moral decline over a century or more which allowed for our nation's corresponding infiltration of destructive influences like secular fundamentalism, Marxism, radical terrorist movements, anti-family movements including militant feminism and other ideologies, our inward strength and character as Lincoln warned is severely weakened and under attack. I have heard that the renowned historian Arnold Toynbee said a study of numerous once great civilizations showed they all collapsed from within--as Lincoln spoke of--and that from moral and spiritual disintegration.
Yet the American church in large part slumbers. That is why the small remnant that is awake and alive to the Holy Spirit of God must not only pray but go out into the world in fulfillment of the Great Commission Jesus gave to all followers (not just a few missionaries) wherever they live in the power of the Spirit and the love of God. For in our calling to fulfill the Great Commission to make disciples—not just converts--we must operate via the Great Commandment Jesus gave which is love.
Thus as we pray and so act, we must thereby awaken the rest of the Body of Christ to this moment in the climax of history and rise up in prayer and action to not only pray for the much needed Great Awakening and new Reformation, but to bring our nation and the nations of the world to the Master Jesus who purchased them with His precious blood. This is no time to wait in fear at the Rapture Bus Station. The Rapture will happen in due time. Meanwhile, we have work to do and we must be about the Master's business-- not only for the sake of ourself, our families, the church and our nation, but above all for the sake and advancement of the Kingdom of God and the last, great end-times Harvest for our Father God and Savior who is not willing that any perish.
