The "God receipt" waitress was fired by Applebee's after posting a customer's receipt online. In what has become a huge story in St. Louis, apparently a waitress received no tip from a customer, but instead got a note from them that she posted online. According to a report on the story from Thursday (Jan. 31), the customer's name was Alois Bell and on the receipt she scratched out the suggested tip and wrote, "I give God 10 percent, why do you get 18?"
The story went viral almost immediately after the waitress posted a picture of the receipt to Reddit and now she has lost her job as a result. Former Applebee's waitress Chelsea Welch told Yahoo! News that she lost her job after the customer (who turned out to be a pastor) complained to her manager. Bell had reportedly stated that her reputation was ruined after Welch made the internet post and that the firestorm had shown her in an unflattering light.
It's worth noting that the pastor states that she feels embarrassed for what she wrote on the receipt, but maybe she should also feel pretty bad about her actions getting a waitress fired from her job. This has definitely created a polarizing debate about tipping waitresses for their hard work and whether the pastor was simply using her religion as an excuse to not leave a tip. While Alois Bell is going to go down as the pastor who refused to leave a tip, Chelsea Welch is going to be forever known as the "God receipt" waitress who got fired by Applebee's.
