Actress and Chico native Amanda Detmer (2000’s “Final Destination,” TV’s “Necessary Roughness”) returns to her hometown this week for The Blue Room Theatre’s production of Yasmina Reza’s “God of Carnage.”
There will be a special preview of the play tomorrow, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online or at the box office Monday through Thursday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
“God of Carnage” is sold out for the rest of this week, but it will run on five other days. The show will play at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, through Saturday, Jan. 26. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $15 for students. The only exception is the Jan. 23 showing, when tickets are $9 for everyone.
An offstage fight on a school playground brings two sets of parents together for this one scene play set in Brooklyn. At first, the parents are having a reasonable discussion about the incident. But, as they spend more time together, their patience with each other begins to wane.
Detmer will play the role of Veronica. Joining her onstage are Chico State alums Michael Gannon and Johnny Lancaster.
Chico residents remember Gannon for his performance as Hamlet for Shakespeare in the Park, while Lancaster has found success doing promos for Pringles, Pepsi, Volkswagen, and Hershey’s. Lancaster also hosted ESPN’s documentary-style series, “The Life.” They will play the roles of Alan and Michael, respectively.
New York City resident Daniela Mastropietro will play the role of Annette. Mastropietro is a professional actor and dancer/choreographer, whose credits include “Time of Your Life,” and “The Shaughraun” at The Storm Theatre.
The play was directed by Coy Middlebrook, another Chico native. A resident director and choreographer with Chico City Light Opera, Middlebrook has since directed shows worldwide and even has some associate director credits from Broadway shows. He recently directed “Little Shop of Horrors” at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. and finished his first feature film, “For Spacious Sky,” which stars Detmer.
Get your tickets before they sell out. Arrive early as the show will begin promptly at its scheduled times. There will be no late seating.
