A Daily Word from the Word for Tuesday, December 24, 2013
‘So the Lord said to him, ‘Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?’” – Exodus 4:11
God made our mouth to speak what He has spoken. We are made in God’s image; and as such, we are our Father’s workmanship (Genesis 1:27, Ephesians 2:10). Sadly, the biggest weapon that God has given us (our mouth) to use against the enemy, we have allowed the devil to pervert and turn against our very own selves!
The Hebrew word for “has” as used here is el (pr. ale), which means “denoting motion towards, occasionally used of a quiescent position” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines “quiescent” as “causing no trouble or symptoms.” Sons and daughters of the Most High King, God has made our mouths with a motion toward Him. When we use our mouths as they were intended: to echo back God’s Word, to praise our Holy Father, to tear down the strategies and strongholds of the devil; then we keep at bay and thwart any trouble and symptoms that the devil has formed against us.
The Word of God declares “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, says the LORD” (Isaiah 54:17). It is inevitable that weapons are formed against us, but they were never intended to be allowed to prosper. We were made with a mouth to shut down and destroy these armaments.
Our mouth, as made by God, is our peh (pr. peh) which in the Hebrew is “as means of blowing whether literally or figuratively, to blow away, to scatter into corners, portion, according to.” Webster’s Dictionary defines “blow” as “to set in motion, to shatter, burst, or destroy by explosion.” The devil has perverted our greatest weapon, our mouth, because if we truly realized how powerful God created it to be, this destroyer of human kind would be no match for us!
When we speak according to God’s Word, then we set in motion all of the promises of our Father that He gave us in His written Word, The Bible, and we make manifest our portion. When we speak according to God’s Word, we shatter the strategy of the enemy with such an explosion, that we reduce it to irreparable pieces which are then blown away to the four corners of the earth.
My brother, do you need the trouble and the symptoms in your life to subside? Are you tired of being tired, my sister? Do you want God’s peace in you and in your life that surpasses all understanding, family? (Philippians 4:7). Then use your mouth that God has made for you in the way He made it to equip you to have His very best; and to walk in everything that pertains to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence (2 Peter 1:3).
Father, help us to be always mindful of our mouths the way You made them. When we open our mouths wide, fill them with good things (Psalm 81:10). Most Mindful Father, set a guard over our mouths and set a watch over the door of our lips (Psalm 141:3). By Your Holy Spirit, help us to speak only life and blessings from our mouths, which starts in our hearts. Create in us a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within us, Oh God (Psalm 51:10). In Jesus Name, we thank You for this new cleansing and purifying work You have begun in us for your glory and honor. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to remember each morning when you awake, and throughout the day, the purpose for which your mouth was made. Be mindful of the One who made your mouth. Choose to speak only according to what God has spoken. And continue to fight the good fight of setting your mouth in motion toward the Father, which in turn aims it directly at the enemy; for God, your Spoken Word, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
