“But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible.” – Ephesians 5:13-14a
A few weeks ago, I had a dream that I was late for a dentist appointment. My scheduled time was 4.30, but when I finally arrived, it was 4.50PM. When I approached the front desk, ready to plead my case for being late, the receptionist behind the counter simply said “Have a seat.” As I sat down, there were other people waiting to be seen. We each had our own couch to sit on. I picked up a newspaper lying next to me and began to read.
The dentist in this particular dream represented Jesus Christ (© 2010. Milligan. Understanding the Dreams Your Dream). A seat symbolizes “authority, rest, position, honor” (© 2011. Thompson and Beale. The Divinity Code). Sitting on a couch is to rest, to be unconcerned. And a newspaper signifies exposure. I was 20 minutes late. The number twenty represents God’s Holiness.
The Lord told me that He was going to expose the wrongs and wrong-doers that have come against me. The intents and the plots of the enemy would be brought to the light and then brought to an utter end. My responsibility was to remain in God’s Holiness, His all-consuming fire of protection, and to allow Jesus to plead my case. In allowing my Divine Defense Attorney to speak on my behalf, I retain my honor. The same is true for you, family.
Too many times, we want to take matters into our own hands, and deal with or expose those individuals whose intents are wrong against us, and who have plotted or come against us. Don’t, my brother. Leave well enough alone, my sister. The Apostle Paul testifies “Let God be truth but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4). We are to be holy as God is Holy (1 Peter 1:16).
God is our strength, our shelter, our ever-present Helper (Psalm 59:7, Psalm 94:22, Psalm 46:1). We are hid in Christ (Colossians 3:3, Ephesians 2:6). Be patient and wait on the Lord (Psalm 27:14). When we try to expose others, we make a liar out of ourselves, because then we are saying we know better than God. And God can get the job done infinitely more perfectly than you or I can. Only the Holy Father knows how and when to deal with each individual, because only God can judge the hearts of those around us.
And when we take matters into our own hands, then we refuse to “have a seat,” and instead remove ourselves from the mercy seat of Christ, and step down from that high place and into the desolate wasteland of our flesh, which produces nothing good. Saint Matthew testifies from the hilltop of heaven that we are to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
Let us not glorify the flesh; but instead put the spotlight on Christ, Who, while we were yet sinners, died for us (Romans 5:8). Allow the magnificent light of the saving, restoring, loving Cross of Christ do the work in the hearts and lives of others. Bask in the assurance of God’s love; and allow His life, death, and resurrection to do the rest.
Father, we give every situation over to You. Help us, Holy God, to trust You to the fullest with our very lives. By the Power of Your Holy Spirit, help us to keep our focus on You; and as we do, You will expose those things and people which need to be exposed. Keep us in your Holy rest, Most Perfect Father. And keep us seated with You in Christ. Help us to stay above the fray, and not get tangled up in the ways of the world. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we love You because You first loved us (1 John 4:19), and we are holy because Your Holy Spirit lives within us. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to let God be God. Determine to allow God’s truth to expose every lie. Focus on the Father and His great, deep, intimate, life-transforming, and amazing love for you. And continue to fight the good fight of staying in your seat; for God, your Eternal Rest, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
