On Sunday morning, April 13, 2014 at The Mount (Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL where Bishop C. E. Glover is the Senior Pastor) the atmosphere was subdued due to rainy weather. However, as the male choir began to minister, one could feel the shift in the atmosphere. They ministered two selections: “Morning Dove” by the Canton Spirituals and “God is Able,” a remix of a congregational song. This ignited an explosion of praise among the congregants.
As Bishop Glover approached the pulpit the congregation settled but now they were waiting with anticipation to hear from Bishop CE Glover…wondering what message God had given him pertaining to Palm Sunday. Bishop Glover began to speak; he immediately declared that he had a word but it did not pertain to Palm Sunday.
He began with a question, “Have you ever found yourself in a situation where God’s Word says one thing and you are experiencing another? You have repeated to yourself that you are the head and not the tail; you are the lender and not the borrower.”
Bishop Glover used the analogy of the book of Genesis, chapters Genesis 3:15; 4:1-8, 25-26. Eve had found herself in a situation where one of her sons was dead and the other was disqualified from the direct lineage of Jesus. With the congregation sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting on a word from God, Bishop began to explain that Eve was at a loss; she knew what the Word said but her situation was saying something else. Bishop Glover looked out into the crowd and said emphatically, “Trust in the plan of God, He has not left us alone to fend for ourselves; He is working on your behalf!” He [Bishop Glover] continued to remind us “the good thing is I’m on God’s mind; we are on God’s mind; you are on God’s mind, he stop and paused and said “Now tell somebody that God is thinking about you!”
Bishop Glover couldn’t contain himself once again he reminded the congregation “If you woke up this morning, you are in God’s plan, don’t give up. I’m the head and not the tail. I believe in reciting the Word of God back to God and putting my name on it. Glover is the head and not the Tail.” Speak the word of God over your life and wait on the Lord.
He continued on with the story of how Eve’s situation contradicted God’s Word; she had lost both her sons, one dead and one was a wanderer. But God…He had a substitute! The scripture reads as such, “Adam made love to his wife again and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying ‘God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.’ Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh” (Gen. 4:25, 26 NIV). As Bishop Glover continued to preach, he stated that God will give you a new beginning. “Seth means new beginning. Thank God for new beginnings, thank God for our substitute, Jesus Christ! Because He lives, we can face tomorrow. You will be able to look back over your life and realize all things work together for His good. God always works from the future backwards.” He let the congregation know that “Calvary is not an afterthought, that God works well in time.” Bishop Glover also reminded us that while we are waiting we need to worship Him (God)!
Bishop Glover reached the pinnacle of today’s message. Simultaneously, Minister Craig Walden, the Minister of Music, began to softly play “He’s Able.” Bishop called members to the altar for prayer and spoke a word over their lives, again reminding us “God is at work on your behalf.” As the altar prayer finished, the male choir and the congregation began to sing in unison “…don’t give up on God ‘cause He won’t give up on you.” Bishop Glover sang aloud and asked the question “Why?” The male choir and congregation exuberantly replied with much emotion and enthusiasm, “He is Able!”
This message explicitly states that because your life contradicts God’s plan does not mean that God won’t turn it around in your favor. However, while you are waiting begin to believe and worship God and watch how He will give you a substitute, a replacement or a second chance.
