God is a God of surprises. He actually delights in surprising His children. If you are a parent, think of how much you enjoy surprising your children, whether it be a birthday party or something special that you know your child has been yearning for. Take that feeling and multiply it by infinity, and that is how much more delighted God is when he surprises His children.
God’s surprises are transforming, and life-changing. Sometimes His surprises are so unexpected, we may be taken aback or feel uncomfortable. Still, if we learn to embrace these unexpected blessings that God sends our way, we will find that they have made a huge difference in our lives. God knows what is best for His children, and sometimes He reveals to us His desire for us by the opportunities and blessings that He sends our way. It is our job to take advantage of them.
Matthew 7:11 says, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him?” Even if you find that you do not have enough faith to ask, God still wants the best for you. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
God will open doors that have been closed. He will open hearts and minds that have been shut down. Always be watchful for these moments so they do not pass you by. When an unexpected door seems to open, don’t immediately brush it off. It might be God opening that door for you.
I have a personal story to share as a demonstration of how this can happen in your life. I have written a lot of song lyrics complete with melodies, but have no idea how to do the music notation for my songs. I have also written a lot of poetry, some of which is published in journals and online. A couple of years ago, I was contacted by a Russian composer who had discovered the lyrics to a lullaby I had written, and he wanted to compose the music for the lyrics. I was very skeptical of him at first. The lullaby lyrics were some I had published 3 or 4 years ago, and I had even forgotten about them. Upon investigation, however, I discovered that this composer was very legitimate. His website showed that he was a very accomplished composer who had won numerous awards. Over the past several months he and I have been collaborating in perfecting the lullaby, and it has been a very interesting, humbling process. Not only have I learned a lot, I look forward to soon hearing the complete lullaby as it is performed by a female ensemble and orchestra.
Three months ago, I was contacted by another composer who had discovered the same lullaby. She had already written music for my lyrics and wanted permission to use my lyrics. Since the Russian composer and I had reworked some of my original lyrics, and with his permission, I was able to allow this new composer to use my original lyrics to my song. Since this, we have collaborated on several lullabies and are working on a lullabye album for children. I am also writing small children’s stories to accompany the album. This composer has also offered to do the notation for my songs for free.
Some people may call all of this coincidence or a lucky break. I call it a blessing straight from the heart of God. He knows my deepest desire, and He knows how to accomplish that desire in ways I would never, ever have imagined.
Never give up on your dreams. God is a God of miracles, and He delights in bringing you joy.
