GOD in eggplant? In the name of the Father, the Son and the holy eggplant, amen

Some people find God in the most unusual of places. But an eggplant? Why not? Truth seekers have found the Christ in their morning toaster strudels; others have sworn the blessed mother Mary has joined them from within their butter dish. But in a true Charlotte’s Web-like moment, this message was spelled out plain to see: GOD is indeed inside of this halved eggplant.

Reports the Huffington Post: “Slicing into an eggplant turned into a religious experience for a Baton Rouge chef when he found the word ‘GOD’ spelled out inside, arranged in seeds. Line cook Jermarcus Brady of Gino's Restaurant called it a ‘miraculous image’ in an interview.”

We’ll admit – this is not your typical sighting of a saint in a sausage patty or John the Baptizer’s side profile in your dirty bathtub ring. It’s no Shroud of Turin either, but these seeds actually grew in three perfectly shaped letters to form the word “GOD.”

Shroud of Turin: Why the shroud is not the ancient burial wrap of Christ

We’re not sure what the message is really, but to Brady, he knows it was a sign. (And please, here's to hoping that the eggplant doesn't appear on eBay for sale anytime soon.)

“He's showing me that ‘hey, I'm real’ and that's the only thing I can depend on,” he said, adding that he’s “scared to slice another eggplant.”

Of course, one could also pick up God's Word, the Bible, to read about Him and to draw close to their Creator. Or you can just continue to slice open seeded veggies and keep your fingers crossed.

Gino Marino, the namesake owner of the restaurant, was also touched by the so-called spiritual seeds.

“I went back there and he was overwhelmed,” Marino said. “I looked at it, we were just drawn back. We just couldn't believe what we were looking at.”

But according to the HuffPost, God has been regularly appearing in aubergines:

In 2007, a Pennsylvania woman also found God in an eggplant.

And in 2012, someone found what appears to be the Arabic script for Allah in an eggplant.

Other nightshade fruits have also had holy encounters, including a tomato that appeared to show Jesus as it decomposed as well as Jesus sightings in potatoes and a potato chip.
