God, books & music: Christian writers and readers gather in Baltimore on 12/8

Lots of Christian readers and writers are expected to attend the 2012 Christian Writer's Literary Festival on Saturday, December 8 from 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Central Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library located 400 Cathedral Street (21201).

This annual event sponsored by Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) offers opportunities for Christian fiction and non-fiction authors to share their expertise, testimony and writing ministry in a setting that encourages and inspires Christian readers and writers.

Christian book lover enthusiasts will have opportunities to meet and greet more than two dozen Christian fiction and non-fiction authors including Dr. Steven Haymon of St. Louis, MO; Rev. Deborah D. Jenkins of Bronx, NY; Sonya Privette-James of Philadelphia, PA; Pastor Kevin Wayne Johnson of Columbia, MD; Melody Ravert of Essex, MD and Andrea Freeman of Baltimore, MD. Attendees will also enjoy Christian recording artists - Carmen Calhoun and Nicois - who will minister in song and share Christian songwriting tips.

Although admission to the 2012 Christian Writer’s Literary Festival is free, attendees are expected to bring “NEW” personal hygiene items (bars of soap, hand sanitizer, lotion, deodorant, lip balm, chap stick, cologne, perfume, sanitary napkins/tampons, shaving cream, shaving razors, dental floss, tooth paste, mouth wash, men’s pajamas, women’s pajamas, medicated Vaseline, Gold Bond Powder, baby powder, etc.) to drop-off at the event’s registration table. All donated items will be distributed to The Karis Home and The Baltimore Rescue Mission (two Christian homeless shelters in Baltimore).

Anyone interested in attending the 2012 Christian Writer's Literary Festival on this Saturday (12/8) should note the following itinerary for scheduled activities:

  • 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Christian Book Exhibits (2nd floor hallway) - Meet & Greet Christian fiction and non-fiction authors and purchase books.
  • 10:45 a.m. - 3:35 p.m. - Author Panel Discussions/Songwriter Workshops (2nd floor- The Poe Room & Office of Student Programs) - Hear testimony and insight from a variety of Christian authors and songwriters.
  • 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Helping the Homeless - Drop-off "NEW" personal hygiene items for homeless men and women at the Registration Table (2nd floor).

Christian author and inspirational speaker, Quiniece Sheppard is the MC for the Panel Discussions.

The Poe Room (2nd Floor) - As Christian authors, we have a call on our lives to write for more than entertainment. The real-life testimonies (non-fiction) and the creative stories/parables (fiction) we share in our books help introduce readers to biblical principles that help them lead Christ-full lives.

11:30 a.m. – 11:55 a.m. - Writing to Disciple Youth
The Poe Room (2nd Floor) - Today, more than ever, our youth need more Godly influences to help them develop into well-rounded men and women. The books we write help young people grow in their Christian walk and equip adults who work with youth with effective, Christian-based teaching tools.

Noon – 12:20 p.m. - Poetry as Praise Panel
The Poe Room (2nd Floor) - Defined by some as the measured language of emotion, poetry it is the art of prose or rhythmical composition - written or spoken. The poems we share in our books proclaim beautiful, imaginative, heart-stirring and thought-provoking homage to God while offering readers a look into our individual journeys of faith.

12:30 p.m. – 12:55 p.m. - My Words - My Words Become My Praise, Part #1
The Office of Student Programs (2nd Floor) - Carmen Calhoun, an Author, Psalmist and Songwriter will minister in song. With three music CDs – Broken and Blessed, Life & i am, Carmen Calhoun will share Godly insight in a unique harmonious way that rocks listeners into praise for the Lord Jesus Christ!

1:00 – 1:40 p.m. - Healing Words
The Poe Room (2nd Floor) - We live in a dying world where people are hurting and living "dead" lives void of God's promises. Our books help people understand that "life" is in the Word of God and healing stems from a "renewed" life in Christ. We write books that inspire, uplift and encourage the daily application of God's words in our readers' lives.

1:45 p.m. – 2:10 p.m. - Christian Writers/Author Resource Panel
Panelists will share expert advice and resource information that help writers or aspiring writers grow their book ministries.

2:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. - Christian Fiction: Stories that Harvest Souls for Christ
The Poe Room (2nd Floor) - The Holy Bible is filled with short stories/parables that Jesus used to help his followers understand the truth of His Word. In our books, we use our Holy Ghost imagination to create fiction novels, novellas and/or short stories that introduce our readers to life-changing principles found in God's word (The Holy Bible).

2:35 p.m. – 3:05 p.m. - Writing as a Tool for Christian Ministry, Part # 2
The Poe Room (2nd Floor) - As Christian authors, we have a call on our lives to write for more than entertainment. The real-life testimonies (non-fiction) and the creative stories/parables (fiction) we share in our books help introduce readers to biblical principles that help them lead Christ-full lives.

3:10 p.m. - 3:35 p.m. - My Words Become My Praise, Part II
The Office of Student Programs (2nd Floor) - Nicois, a Psalmist and Songwriter will minister in song. Nicois represents a chosen generation full of expression, creativity, and poise. The singer and songwriter has been saturated with an undeniable gift of song and uses it to the glory of God. She will share Godly insight in a unique harmonious way that rocks listeners into praise for the Lord Jesus Christ!
