For those of us who prefer inspirational, redemptive, but authentic movies and television programs over those movies and tv programs with horror, vampires, and zombies, it was interesting to hear Roma Downey tell Oprah how God beat the zombies when their Bible mini-series was aired in competition with The Walking Dead programming.
With their company LightWorkers Media, producer and actor Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel, The Bible) and producer Mark Burnett (The Voice, Survivor, The Apprentice, The Bible) brought their epic miniseries to audiences world-wide through television. The series was successful in many ways: #1 cable entertainment telecast of the year, one of the best-selling TV-to-disc film series ever, and winner of three Emmy Award nominations.
Roma Downey and Mark Burnett have recently announced the coming of their movie, Son of God., for theaters. Mark Burnett says this is a movie about Jesus for a modern generation. This movie by Twentieth Century Fox from the creators of The Bible miniseries for television will be released in theaters nationwide Feb. 28, 2014. This motion picture will present the story of Jesus with the same cinematic storytelling artistry that made The Bible the best-selling miniseries of all time.
The producers are excited to release their story of Jesus on the big screen. “We are very excited to be working with Twentieth Century Fox to release Son of God as a major motion picture,” said Downey and Burnett. “We responded to an overwhelming demand for the greatest story ever told to be seen as a shared experience on the big screen. It's the story of Jesus for a whole new generation.”
