The statement was made in a class I'm taking on Genesis that "God always does the seeking" when someone is allowed to repent and be convinced that the Scriptures, God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are not only true, but that we can have an intimate relationship with them.
The scriptures in Genesis are an inspired account of how sin and all evil came into the world. From one point of view we may call it pure revelation, namely in the sense that man, left to his own devices, had forgotten this lamentable event of his early history, and so God had to renew the knowledge of it by revelation.
For the very strange fact is to be observed that an actual parallel, which ties up the evils of the human race with the Fall and so with human sin, is not to be found in the traditions of the various races and peoples, who may yet have had a bit of truth concerning an earlier state of blessedness in a golden age of antiquity.
If God did not do the seeking, all men would simply go to hell. “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.(Romans 1:19-20 ESV)
Dr. Missler, the professor, gave the examples that Adam joined his bride in that fateful bite of the Apple and they hid from God because they were naked. Of course God knew this and sought them out and provided them with clothing made from animal skins.
God taught them the Levitical lesson that sin must be covered by blood several hundred years before Leviticus. Of course God knew this and sought them out and provided them with clothing made from animal skins.
Some clear examples of God doing the calling of men, which He always does, are:
1. Abraham was called by God and told to take his family to a new land. Abraham finally obeyed, but not until his father had passed away.
2. Jacob outsmarted his older, more materialistic brother and took his birthright. Jacob was called by God, and many years later given the name Israel.
3. Moses was raised in luxury but fled after killing a man. God called Moses to bring His people out of Egypt and lead them to the Promised Land; which Moses never entered.
I admit that God called me long before I even gave God a second glance. This was despite being in a God fearing house with a mother that loved the Lord and taught my sister and I the same. We were taught early on to be God and Jesus Christ centric.
I am also an example of God's patience because it took way to many years for me listen after leaving home for college. After coming back to Jesus Christ, it took more years for me to understand that God requires one hundred percent, just as Jesus gave His life for us.
But praise a living God, Jesus Christ has my heart, mind, soul, and strength and I'm actually living and working for God; sharing the Gospel and telling people if He can save me, there is hope for anyone.
Overall, Genesis is the most tragic book in the entire Bible. Perhaps on this side of heaven we will never know the true conditions that man existed in prior to the fall. But one thing for sure, man is not getting any better.
