Goaltender Jordan Pearce joins the Toledo Walleye

The Grand Rapids Griffins, an American Hockey League affiliate of the Toledo Walleye and the Detroit Red Wings, announced yesterday the assignment of goaltender Jordan Pearce to the Walleye.

Pearce started out in the NAHL, playing for the U.S. National Under-18 Team before moving up to the Lincoln Stars in the USHL in the 2004-2005 season.  He won 22 of 38 games with the Stars, carrying a 3.07 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage.

Starting in 2005, Pearce played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, earning a starting goaltender position during his junior year.  He recorded his statistically-best seasons with the Irish in the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 campaigns.

Managing a 2.04 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in his junior season, Pearce led the team all the way to the Frozen Four in the NCAA Tournament.  His play improved in his senior year, helping the Irish reach the NCAA Tournament.  His 2008-2009 season numbers were equally impressive, averaging just 1.68 goals against and stopping 93.1% of shots to take home the CCHA regular season and tournament championships.

After his final college season ended, Pearce was signed to a two-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings.  He joined the Grand Rapids Griffins for a single game in the spring of 2009 and attended their training camp this fall.

Pearce is a valued addition to the Walleye, who are already looking strong between the pipes.  That's good news for head coach Nick Vitucci, who is possibly the best goaltender to ever play in the ECHL, landing in the ECHL Hall of Fame in 2008.

For more info: Check back each day through opening night as the Toledo Walleye Examiner will provide complete coverage of training camp.  Standing-room tickets for the October 16 home opener are still available in person at the Lucas County Arena box office, the Toledo Walleye official site and by phone at (419) 725-WALL.
