The Toledo Walleye announced today the addition of goaltender Billy Sauer to their roster. Sauer joins the team in place of goaltender Alec Richards, who started the season in Toledo before he was called back to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL last weekend.
Sauer came up through the USHL, playing for the Chicago Steel in the 2004-05 season. The following year he began his collegiate career with the Michigan Wolverines.
Recording his statistically best season in 2007-08 with Michigan, Sauer tallied a .924 save percentage and an impressive 1.95 goals allowed in 38 games. He won 30 games that season, allowing just 74 goals.
The New York native opened the 2009-10 season with the Charlotte Checkers, playing in five games. He was recalled to the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL just days before joining the Walleye.
The Walleye begin an extended home series this Friday as they host the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Lucas County Arena. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or other stuffed animal to benefit Lucas County Children Services. It's also Buckeye-Wolverine rivalry night and there will be a post-game party in the Aquarium.
The teams meet again Sunday afternoon for kids' night including a post-game skate with the team. Toledo will host the Florida Everblades and South Carolina Stringrays to close out November over Thanksgiving weekend.
Tickets for all remaining home games are available by calling (419) 725-WALL, visiting the Lucas County Arena box office or by ordering online.
