You have probably set some goals for yourself this year, 2014 and probably have each new year. You may have realized that without the proper education, resources, and support, getting to your goals can be a rocky road with some individuals not reaching them. It is important to know what is going on in your community and what support you have. You can go to The American Diabetes Association website, www.diabetes.org and enter in your zip code to find out local events within your community. Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are chronic health conditions that call for continued attention to help keep your health in check. As I have written previously, many individuals with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes have been successful at keeping their blood sugars in check, thereby reducing their chances of acute and chronic health complications.
With the proper education and support, I have helped individuals with Type 2 diabetes reduce their medications prescribed by their healthcare provider including being able to stop taking insulin. Unfortunately, with all of the myths and negative information about diabetes, many individuals with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes do not realize how much they can do to improve their health and avoid complications. Find a local diabetes chapter in your community and /or Certified Diabetes Educator, and/or Dietician to help you manager your Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. You and your health are worth it.
Until next time and to better health,
