Sochi isn't the only place in the world hosting snowsport competitions. On Feb. 25 Ski Sundown http://skisundown.com in New Hartford and the Connecticut Ski Council is hosting the Connecticut Winter Games for Seniors at Ski Sundown located on Ratlum Road in New Hartford Connecticut. The CT Winter Game event is open to people that are turning 50 in 2014 or those that are older.

The games include racing events in three major categories downhill skiing, giant slalom and snowshoeing. Each event is divided into classes with a total of nine age brackets for both men and women. Even though the spirit of the events are competitive, an important goal of the Winter Games is to promote snow sports to people of all ages.

On the day of the event, opening ceremonies are planned to take place at 8:30 a.m. with events beginning at 9:30 a.m. The awards ceremony will take place in the lodge at Ski Sundown at 2 p.m. when gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in various age brackets for each event. After the event there is a luncheon ($22 ticket) and a cash bar reception.
