It’s almost time to go fly a kite in River Legacy Parks again! The 5th annual Kite Festival, being held on Saturday, March 10, is the start of a new year of the City of Arlington Naturally Fun Neighborhood events, all proof that Arlington really is a Playful City USA.
For newcomers to the kite festival, it’s important to know that it isn’t just about flying kites, though that’s a big part of it. There are also contests for kites of all sizes, shapes, and colors, and kite fliers of all ages, stunt kite flying (did you even know there was such a thing?), and workshops for those who want to build their own unique and individual kites.
If you’re not a kite flier, you can still enjoy the day: concessions, vendors, and a variety of other activities make this an all-round good time for everyone. Explore the park—as much or as little of the 1,300 acres of natural beauty and wildlife as you have time or energy for—or just sit and watch. It’s quite a sight, all the colorful kites in the sky, soaring, bobbing, and weaving. Bring your sunglasses, a blanket or something to sit on, and your camera, and allow yourself to be wowed and have fun with all that’s going on around you.
The Kite Festival starts at 10 a.m. and continues on till 2 p.m. Arrive early for best parking. The cost per participant is $5. River Legacy Parks is located at 703 N.W. Green Oaks Blvd. For more information about the festival, visit the Arlington Parks Department website.
