Springtime is full of blustery days so put that wind power to some good use.
The Zilker Kite Festival is an annual event and this year will be its 85th festival. It is held on the first Sunday in March.
And the date this year will be on Sunday March 3rd starting at 10am and held at Zilker Park, which is located at 2100 Barton Springs Road in Austin.
The festival includes contests, a 50-yard dash, kite clinics, face painting, rock wall climbing and lots of activities for children. For more information check the link above or call 512 448 5483.
The first Kite Tournament was created in 1929 to encourage creativity in children and to bring the community together. Now the festival is presented by Exchange Club of Austin, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse.
People and pets are welcome and this is a free event, so no admission tickets. If weather is not cooperating, then the second Sunday will be an alternate day.
Zilker Park is in the heart of Austin, near Lady Bird Lake and has over 350 acres of land. There are also hike and bike trails around the lake.
So kick off the spring season with a day in the park.
