GMO WARning (Part 4)

It must be repeated that the author appreciates and thanks the individuals bringing this information to light such as Jeffery Smith and Dr. Michael Antoniou. Much of the material found within these articles is due to their hard and diligent work. An outstanding resource is the book titled GMO Myths and Truths by Dr. Michael Antoniou, Claire Robinson and John Fagan. Of course don’t forget to watch the documentary mentioned in the previous article called Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of Our Lives. Now to more details everyone interested in their health ought to be aware of:

In May 2009 The American Academy of Environmental Medicine declares GMO should not be consumed and that all physicians should prescribe NON-GMO diets.

“Animal studies indicate serious health risks ... including infertility, immune dysregulation, accelerated aging, dysregulation of genes associated with cholesterol synthesis, insulin regulation, cell singaling, and protein formation, and changes in the liver, kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal system.”

As of December 2012 there are 9 genetically modified crops (and 10 total foods) currently on the market.

Higher profile ones

1. Soy (over 90% of all soy grown in America is GM)

2. Corn

3. Canola

4. Cotton

5. Sugar beets (sugar from sugar beets)

6. Alfalfa

7. Milk (rBGH - recombinant bovine growth hormone and rBST - recombinant bovine somatotropin)

Lower profile ones

8. Hawaiian papaya

9. Yellow crookneck squash

10. Zucchini

Tomatoes (the Flavr Savr tomatoes lacked flavor and got mushy so they were taken off the market, as well as having concerning scientific findings) and potatoes (Amflora (a.k.a EH92-527-1) is a genetically modified potato developed by BASF Plant Science) were taken off the market. The potatoes were primarily taken out of the EU and especially Germany due to 72 percent (Germany) of the public that was surveyed, said they would refuse to eat GMO food, according to Eurobarometer Biotechnology (you will need Chrome or a browser that translates this page from German to English). The irony is that this companies HQ was in Germany and they moved to USA because they were not well received in their home country. Flax was approved but not put on the market.

As Jeffery Smith indicated, the dangers of ingesting known toxins such as Bt toxins are not fully known. Albeit known enough to be of significant concern and it begins to hurt your brain the more you think about something as significant as toxic foreign materials entering the food supply without clinical food safety trials or even mandatory toxicity studies. In fact the next article will get more into how Monsanto dodges the mandatory toxicity studies. There are two primary traits found within these foods that are of concern.

  • Herbicide tolerance (73%) Roundup Ready which makes the food resistant to the pesticide roundup. Then pesticide production (18%) via Bt toxin. Which is a soil bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis, where they take the gene responsible for its toxicity and put it in corn and cotton to thwart off insects that ingest the crops by causing the insects stomachs to essentially explode. Then you have about 8% that contain both traits above.

There have been repeating disease categories found within:

  • Lab animals
  • Humans
  • Livestock/Pets

The issues that have arose have been the following: gastrointestinal issues, allergies, kidney and liver damage, etc. Now you might be wondering if this is all true, then why don’t we have everyone in an uproar and banning these foods? Well the issue is we don’t have post-marketing surveillance, no human clinical trials, no proper evaluation of plant changes or effects, approvals based on disproved or untested assumptions and of course, what is known as ‘Tobacco science’, which are industry studies, as the first article pointed out about the conflict of interest.

Interesting points to be aware of:

Soy allergies increased by 50% soon after GM soy was introduced in the UK according to York Laboratory. Equally the food allergies have grown significantly within the US. However there would appear to be a lack of sufficient data to determine whether or not GMO is a major player in this increase or not in the US? The following symptoms are potentials and concerns regarding GMOs currently:

  • Leaky gut syndrome
  • Gut bacteria disorders
  • Damaged intestinal walls
  • Reduced digestive enzymes
  • Known allergen increased
  • New allergen produced
  • Herbicide residues increased
  • Insufficient trace minerals
  • RR & Bt proteins may be allergenic
  • GM proteins may be produced inside us

Recombinant bovine growth hormone was brought to you by Monsanto which has brought with it many health concerns that has lead to its market-demise, so perhaps it would be wise on the publics behalf to approach Monsanto with great scrutiny.

Wal-Mart, Kroger, Starbucks and about 58 of the top 100 dairies have rejected rBGH so far. There is more pus in the milk, growth hormone, antibiotics, most importantly there is more insulin-like growth factor 1 which is a promoter of cancer and women with IGF-1 circulating throughout their body are 7 times more likely to develop breast cancer and men are 4 times more likely to develop prostate cancer.

You have to ask your self would you really trust the same company that created and told the public that Agent Orange, DDT, rBGH and PCB’s were safe? Now they tell you that GMO’s are safe . . . something about that doesn’t seem right. Visit ResponsibleTechnology.org to learn more about this major issue facing us all today.

This investigative series will continue in the coming weeks. Don’t forget to check back to enlighten yourself on the potential threat of GMOs on your body and to share with your friends on whatever social-networking tool that you fancy. Review the data and remember that all evidence is suggestive. Here is a great shopping guide resource for Non-GMO information. Today’s words of wisdom are from our comrade Jiddu Krishnamurti.

“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”
