GMA's Robin Roberts apparently 'comes out' as gay

As reported by ET News on Sunday, the beloved "Good Morning America" co-host, Robin Roberts, has admitted to being in a 10-year relationship with a woman by the name of Amber Laign. The GMA co-host posted a photo of herself on her Facebook page in which she took the time to reflect on the past and to express gratitude to God, to her friends, her doctors, her nurses, her donors, and her " longtime girlfriend".

"I am grateful for my entire family, my longtime girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together."

Robin Roberts has inspired millions with her recent, courageous struggle against breast cancer and more recently, MDS, which is a rare condition affecting the blood and bone marrow.

While millions will continue to be inspired by Roberts' story and undoubtedly shower her with blessings and well-wishes, others may find it peculiar that the beloved co-host chose this particular time to make a public statement regarding her longtime relationship with another woman.

In recent days, GLAAD and supporters of the LGBT community have experienced considerable backlash from Americans after they actively sought to silence the voice of another American, Phil Robertson of the highly-popular reality TV show, "Duck Dynasty", simply because he shared his bible-based views on marriage and homosexuality.

In other words, the LGBT community did not have a good week in the public arena last week, as GLAAD's decision to go after Phil Robertson made them come across as intolerant of others' views, particularly of those who exercise or express bible-based, Christian values.

So, a fair question regarding this "coming out" statement by Robin Roberts would be, "Why now?"
