GM to offer free auto insurance on new models

Thanks to the realization of Toyota’s below-average quality, General Motors has regained the top spot in the American automotive industry while also being the top Detroit automaker in terms of sales volume.  Even though GM is leading the American industry, the company is continuing to look at new ways to attract buyers with their newest plan being free car insurance for the first year of ownership.

General Motors is teaming up with MetLife Auto Insurance to offer a 1 year policy to consumers who buy a new Buick, Cadillac, GMC or Chevrolet model between now and September 7th, but there is a very important catch – this only applies to drivers in Oregon and Washington.  General Motors picked these two states as they have been dominated by Japanese and European competition over the past few years and while other states (such as California) also has lower take-rate for American cars comparing to foreign competition, Oregon and Washington have lower insurance costs so it has less of an impact on GMs bottom line to offer this free year of insurance.

For those new car buyers in Oregon and Washington who opt for a GMC, Cadillac, Chevy or Buick, this program presents a variety of benefits.  The most obvious advantage is that those consumers will get to save money on 12 months of insurance payments but it also offers some piece of mind for these new customers.  A key concern of many new car buyers is that they need to find an insurance company and policy that fits their needs and properly protects their new vehicle.  With this new program from GM and MetLife, buyers in Oregon and Washington can walk into a dealership and walk out with a fully insurance vehicle ready for the road – with no additional cost.

Depending on the reception of this new free car insurance program provided by MetLife on 2010, 2011 and 2012 General Motors vehicles, the largest of the Detroit automakers just may have found the next big thing in the world of automotive industry incentives.
