GM tells dealers to quit selling Chevy Cruze models

Troubled General Motors has told its dealers to stop selling some 2013 and 2014 Cruze compact cars with 1.4 liter turbo engines, although it has not given a reason for order. According to Jim Cain, a spokesman for the company, these models comprise approximately “60% of Cruze sales and about one-third of dealers’ inventory.”

Cruze is currently GM's top-selling U.S. car, with 248,224 units bought by consumers in 2013. The car also comes with a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 2-liter turbodiesel.

News of the “stop sell,” order comes just one week after GM Ceo Mary Barra ordered three unrelated recalls of more than 1.5 million vehicles including Chevy Express, Chevy Traverse, GMC Savanna Vans, GMC Arcadia, Buick Enclave and Cadillac XTS sedans, and a month following its recall of 1.37 million small cars from 2003-07 including Saturn Ion and Chevy Cobalt, for faulty ignition switches.

Last week, GM issued three unrelated recalls covering 1.5 million U.S. vehicles after CEO Mary Barra ordered a stepped-up review of internal safety processes in the wake of the ignition-switch crisis. Those models include Chevy Express and GMC Savana vans, the Cadillac XTS sedan, and three large crossovers: Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave.
