Gluten-free mediterranean food: Roti

Loop office workers with a sensitivity to gluten can quickly find themselves in a sack lunch rut. But if they have time to hoof it over to Riverside Plaza during the lunch hour, they'll find a Mediterranean gluten-free oasis at Roti.

"Fast casual" Roti has been likened to Chipotle because of price and customization options, but also like Chipotle, they'll prepare a gluten-free plate for you. The Venetian Mediterranean Plate includes chicken or steak served with hummus, baba ghannoush, and tomato and cucumber salad (ask your server to replace the standard cous-cous with rice).

Roti offers several other GF plates, including a grilled salmon kabob. For an extra $2.00, you can have a gluten-free pita from Rose's Bakery in Evanston added to your meal. Tread cautiously with add-ons, though - the portions at Roti are almost too big for one sitting.

You can let go of any apprehension about gluten-free fast food at Roti. The words "gluten-free" appear boldly on the wall of the restaurant. Also, Rose's Bakery, a mecca of sorts for those who can't or won't eat wheat, taught Roti everything it knows about preparing food safely for celiacs.
