Gluten-free Italian dining in Atlanta

Yes it’s possible!

To most of us, the idea of Gluten-Free Italian eating is ludicrous. However, some of Atlanta’s finest Italian eateries have taken it upon themselves to offer gluten-free fare!

Maggiano’s Little Italy

Perhaps better known as simply “Maggiano’s “, this popular family-style restaurant chain offers online reservations, and three Atlanta locations in Buckhead, Cumberland and Perimeter.  On the menu, you will see in very fine print that the restaurant will substitute Gluten-Free pasta in any dish.

Please note: You should always request that your gluten-free entree and salad be prepared in a separate dish or pan.  Also, take care with the sauces, meatballs and creamy sauces such as alfredos often have wheat or gluten included as a thickener or binding agent.  Try to order a simple marinara, and take oil and vinegar salad dressing, rather than take a chance.

Maggiano’s is suitable for large groups, families, and couples who don’t mind a little noise and bustle in the atmosphere.

Sugo Restaurant and Tapas

Founded by Federico Castellucci III and the rest of the Castellucci family, Sugo offers Mediterranean fusion cuisine at three North Atlanta locations in Historic Roswell, Roswell North, and Duluth.

Rather than substituting their usual fare with a gluten-free pasta, the chefs at Sugo have designed an entire Gluten-Free menu to complement corn/rice pasta and non-pasta choices. The gluten-free menu includes tapas, antipasto, entrees and dessert options.

Sugo’s atmosphere and service are suitable for romantic dining and convivial events with friends who enjoy tasting wine and food and good company with leisure.

For more info: call ahead to Maggiano's natioanl guest relations at  1-800-983-4637 , or reach Sugo locally at 770.641.9131

Unless things have changed at Maggiano's, you have to preorder the marinara sauce because it normally contains wheat. Also, their alfredo sauce is gluten free everyday. Be sure to add chicken or fish to your pasta with alfredo sauce, as it only contains broccoli and isn't very filling without some protein.

They have a fabulous flourless gluten free chocolate cake that needs to be added back to their menu. It has an actual cake consistency. Make sure to visit their website and request it be brought back.
