One trend you cannot help but know about is gluten free. People all over are talking about how wheat is the reason Americans are so overweight. The answer: No wheat products, whatsoever. The book, ‘Wheat belly’, promised that if you followed the wheat free diet, you would drop a significant amount of weight. On October 7, 2013, the Cornell Daily Sun stated that maybe the gluten free hype is just that, hype.
The gluten free foods are often as bad as the ones with wheat or gluten in them. They contain more calories, fat, and are plain just not good for you in general. There are exceptions to the rule, for example, if you have a gluten sensitivity and cannot eat gluten for your health.
The problem with gluten is many people use the terms wheat and gluten interchangeably. Nutritionally speaking, this is incorrect information. In the book ‘Wheat Belly’, he calls use the two interchangeably. Gluten is a protein that is found in many grains, not just wheat. To truly avoid gluten, you would need to know these grains and avoid them as well, not just wheat.
