I just learned that Mae's Bakery in Buckhead is offering gluten-free baked goods. In fact, they can make a gluten-free version of everything on their menu, except for the croissants and challah bread, for an additional charge. Mae's Bakery is not a dedicated gluten-free bakery, so proceed with caution.
According to Beth Castro, they not an exclusive gluten-free bakery, but they work hard to prevent cross contamination. They bake all gluten-free items at the beginning of the day and use completely separate storage, and wash and sanitize all surfaces, appliances, etc. Because they use wheat flour in the facility, they know there is always potential for cross contact, so they disclose their shared baking environment with all customers before they purchase any of their gluten-free items.
Mae's Bakery bakes their gluten-free items with Cup4Cup's gluten-free flour (contains dairy) and boasts a long list of goodies, such as cookies, cupcakes, muffins, whoopie pies, cinnamon rolls, bars, and savory breads. They usually keep a few things on hand, but if you are looking for something specific, please place a special order 24 hours in advance. Mae's gluten-free items can also be purchased at Java Vino.
Have you tried the gluten-free goodies from Mae's Bakery? What did you think?
