Everyone wondered why Michael Jackson wore the glove. Even Brooke Shields mentioned it during the Memorial Service. A new article from CNN explains the mystery. The trademark, white glove worn by Michael Jackson was designed specifically to cover the skin condition that was discoloring Michael Jackson’s hand.
"The glove was to cover the vitiligo; that's how that glove came into being." Said Cicely Tyson to CNN's Don Lemon.
Michael Jackson repeatedly denied allegations that he was bleaching his skin or denying his black heritage, as he was frequently accused of. In an interview with Larry King (View Video Here) Michael Jackson’s dermatologist, Arnie Klein, verified that Jackson was suffering from Vitiligo. However Michael Jackson repeatedly told the public that he had the condition, he said it to Oprah Winfrey during their famous interview.
In addition to Vitiligo, Michael Jackson was also diagnosed with Lupus. Both conditions have a higher risk percentage in African Americans and both are immunological conditions. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory condition that results when the immune system turns against the body. It is identified by a butterfly rash or malar rash. Dr. Arnie Klein states in his interview that upon first meeting Michael Jackson he was suffering from the characteristic malar or butterfly rash, loss of hair, crusting on his scalp, and was in extreme pain, another condition commonly associated with Lupus. The butterfly rash extends across both cheeks and the bridge of the nose, giving the appearance of a butterfly shape.
Other symptoms of Lupus include weight loss, skin lesions, chronic rashes that worsen after exposure to sun, mouth sores, fatigue, joint pain, Alopecia or hair loss, chest pain, extremities (fingers or toes) turning white or blue after exposure to cold temperatures or when stressed, feeling depressed or anxious, and difficulty with memory.
Vitiligo occurs when there is a loss of melanin or melanocytes in the skin. The coloring of the skin loses its pigmentation and splotches of paler skin emerge. The loss of pigmentation associated with Vitiligo is not evenly spread throughout the body but are rather splotchy or spread throughout. It is often the extremities, such as fingers and toes that develop the patches first. Here is a photo of Vitiligo on the hands. This is most likely very similar to what Michael Jackson experienced when he had his signature white glove created.
The stigma associated with Vitiligo can be great and it is important for those suffering from the condition to recognize the impact the condition might be having on his or her emotional health and well being. Depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders are often prevalent with those who are suffering with Vitiligo. Michael Jackson has said in previous reports, as well as those closest to him, that he had undergone many procedures, including multiple skin grafts. Skin grafts are a common form of treatment for those suffering from Vitligo.
In this Video you can clearly see Michael Jackson was suffering from Vitiligo. One of the treatments is to undergo 'Depgimentation' to create a solid color. Michael Jackson did not turn himself white to turn his back on his black heritage. He suffered from Vitiligo. Comments
Whilst the comments made By Michael Jackson's dermatologist, along with the images in the video montage, appear to make a convincing case for Jackson's vitilago, it is instructive to bear in mind that some of the people who were closest to him had a very different view.
One of those people, record producer Quincy Jones, recently gave the following statements to Details magazine.
Q: Did you believe him about the skin disease
(vitilago)?
A: No. I don't believe in any of that bullshit, no. Never!
Q: But it must have been so disturbing to see Michael's face turn into what it turned into.
A: Its ridiculous, man! Chemical peels and all of it. And I dont understand it. But he obviously didnt want to be black.
Q: Is that what it was? You think he didn't want to be black?
A: What do you think? You see his kids?
CliDoris,
Quincy Jones has no credibility for several reasons.
1. As he stated, he is not a physican of any kind.
2. Chemical peels do not turn you white, they remove the outmost layer of skin. It is often used to treat severe acne as well as other skin conditions. That was very ignorant what he said.
3. He made clear once in an interview that he and Michael just worked together so how is he so close to him now. Often times, people in you social and professional circle have no idea of certain medical conditions you may have. I have lupus and none of my friends or family outside of my immediate family know this. It has attacked my joints. I often times cannot get out of bed or use walking aids, I am laughed at and they claim that I am trying to play victim. Let's get real.
4. Jones has an obsession with whiteness. From his European wives to his white looking children (google: Kenya Jones/ Quincy Jones and you will see she almost looks like Paris Jackson)Look at his kids!
2) Your assertion, to the effect that "Chemical peels do not turn you white, they remove the outmost layer of skin", merely confirms what both Quincy Jones and Jackson's dermatologist, Arnie Klein, have stated: Namely, that Jackson underwent a variety of dermatological procedures, including Chemical peels!
3)Your assertion that "Jones has an obsession with whiteness" is entirely a matter of conjecture on your part, which is tottaly devoid of any substantiating fact/s.
4) Your assertion that Quincy Jones' daughter, Kenya Jones, "almost looks like Paris Jackson" is laughable because Kenya Jones has the obvious appearance of a child/person who is of mulatto heritage. Whereas, Paris Jackson obviously has the appearance of a child/person who is of Caucasoid/Northern European heritage.
Lastly, all of the above, strongly suggests that, before you postulate nonsense that hasn't any basis in fact, you ought to cure yourself of your ignorance, get the facts, and learn to Love-the-Trut
LoveTruth...
The "truth," as it pertains to your comments is as follows:
1) The fact that Quincy Jones is "not a physician of any kind" does not render his observations concerning Michael Jackson as incredible. Rather, his observations are entirely credible for the simple reason that, contrary to your ignorant assertion, Jones actually knew Jackson for a period extending over 30-years, during which he worked very closely with Jackson on four records: The Wiz recorded in 1978; Off The Wall, recorded throughout 1978-79; Thriller, recorded throughout 1982-83; and Bad, recorded throughout 1987-88.
Thus, the fact that Jones worked in close proximity to Jackson, particularly during the period when Jackson started to bleach his skin, attests to the fact that Jones was in a position to observe Jackson's physical and mental condition. As such, Jones' observation, to the effect that Michael Jackson "obviously didn't want to be balck," is rendered very credible indeed!
like you judge, you too shall be judged
CliDoris,
You desire to defend Quincy Jones ignorance is laughable.
1. Many friends of Michael Jackson who were in close proximity of him have said the opposite. There are countless interviews but instead you chose to elevate the obvious opinion of one individual. Why you discredit what many others who were close to Michael had to say in regards to his vitiligo in order to believe Quincy Jones who believes that chemical peels makes you white! Many people suggest chemical peels to cure issues pertaining to acne but they do not make you white. So Quincy Jones was obviously mistaken. MJ used chemical peels for probably the same reason my dermatologist told me to use them, to cure the scars of acne. The procedure that MJ underwent was depigmentation to even out the blotchiness of vitiligo that make-up could no longer effectively cover up. His own makeup artist spoke about what she had to go through to cover it up.
2. Quincy Jones obsession with whiteness as evidence by the many, many white women he has fancied is widely known which is why so many did not believe he had conducted such an interview. I read article after article claiming that MJ's marriages to white women are proof of his "self-hatred" meanwhile people like Quincy Jones can marry 3 white women younger than his daughter, go on cruises with other black male notables were they only bring white women, speak about loving blue eyes but get off scott-free and even have credibility to point at another. This is a double standard.
Nina Simone once said this about Quincy Jones in regards to Michael Jackson. She knew them both. I assume she has credibility by your logic:
"NS: ...It's no surprise that Michael Jackson, the man that I adore the most in this world, has disappeared from the United STates. I distinctly remember meeting Michael on a plane many years ago when he was little, and I said to him, "Don't let them change you. You're black and you're beautiful." But of course, ha was influenced by his family and everybody else. And I don't mind if you say this, I think that the person who's responsible for Michael's tragedy is Quincy Jones [who co-produced his albums Thriller and Bad]. You can quote me.
AP: How is he responsible?
NS: It was Quincy who married a girl from Sweden [Oolah]. And with Quincy with all them white women, poor little Michael didn't know what to do. Michael needed somebody to emulate, and I think he did everything that Quincy Jones told him to do. That is what I believe. "
"4) Your assertion that Quincy Jones' daughter, Kenya Jones, "almost looks like Paris Jackson" is laughable because Kenya Jones has the obvious appearance of a child/person who is of mulatto heritage. Whereas, Paris Jackson obviously has the appearance of a child/person who is of Caucasoid/Northern European heritage."
I met Kenya Jones at a Disney Couture Event (her sister's line). She looked lighter than the pictures on google. I was actually suprised. I never said they looked alike but from the looks of his own children, he should not be discussing what he is discussing. He was once attacked in the same fashion and he DID NOT like it so why would he do it to someone else.
The Tom Joyner Morning Show laughed at Q and kept it moving.
Of all the people you could quote...why not MJ's sister Janet who said he did have vitiligo.
You're article is wrong. MJ never said he had vitiligo. What I mean is that he never used the word (unless you can prove otherwise). That is important. He did have it but obviously never became the advocate some hoped.
Hi Alexander,
I have included the Feb. 10, 1993 interview with Oprah where Michael Jackson describes having Vitiligo. Just click the player and it will follow the videos already included.
Thanks,
Charisse
(p.s) When the autopsy report is released- that is if it is made public, the condition of his body, such as if he had vitiligo as well as Lupus will be documented.
In Florida, it would already be a matter of public record.
you lot watch all videos involving m icheal jackson but you dont believe it whats the point if you dont believe in vitiligo then dont all i can say is that google vitiligo and also i believe him when he said that he had it because i have also got it
Michael Jackson Is a very strong person even thou he had many disease he just keep being energetic for his fans I really love michael jackson and I wish he will have a peaceful life with GOD.... RIP MICHAEL THE ONLY KING OF POP WE LOVE YOU
Not want to be black & all this was cuz of supposed vitiligo. 1st: have seen blacks with this problem use makeup to stay DARK; 2. surgical alterations of eyes, cheeks, chin implants (love the cleft like Kirk Douglas!), lips, and the infamous thinner nose all indicate a desire to look WHITE. Not to mention the straight hair. All taken together, not buying the vitiligo story.
Kathryn Buschelle, 41, a former plastic surgery nurse and long-term partner of one of Jackson's surgeons, told the Sun that Michael Jackson was obsessed with undergoing continuous laser facial peels to lighten his skin.
Ms. Buschelle said "Michael's obsession with his appearance led to more and more skin treatments and his subsequent addiction to Diprivan led to even more. It was an insane cycle.
"He was literally burning his skin off and then being knocked out like a zombie (with Diprivan). It reads like a horror movie script. Towards the end of the 90s he was a dead man walking, that's how zoned out he was"

You'd do well to learn that an "obsession" is defined as an irrational, unhealthy and compulsive preoccupation with something or someone.
As such, you should know that your incessant attempts to paint Quincy Jones as someone who is obsessed with "whiteness" and/or "white women" is proof positive that, rather Jones, it is you who suffers from obsession.
The guy bleached his skin plain and simple, he's also overseas in some island paradise trying to escape people like you. Plain and simple.
Charrisse...
Excellent article and video....
It's laughable that even after seeing this video, some people will still contest that he tried to 'bleach' his skin and that he wanted to be white, HAHA!
But then again, these are the kinds of people that would probably believe Elvis was abducted by aliens because they read it in a tabloid.
Does it matter he had a skin disease anyway !
Okay I like totally have a huge crush on prince
CliDoris,
You are obviously obsessed with Michael Jackson because you are trying to paint him as someone he was not.
In the case of QJ, his love for "whiteness" and white women is old, everyone knows that about him. There have been celebrities who have made interviews questioning his "blackness" in the same way he found fit to do Michael so i feel the need to air out his contradiction. Rashida Jones and Kenya Jones are no darker than Paris Jackson.
You are obsessed and irrational.
LoveTruth...
The only sensible observation that one can make about you and your comments is that what you lack in intelligence you more than make up with hideous STUPIDITY!
Today's the world is returning towards natural way of curing due to the harmful effects of today's chemical & synthetic medicines. People are deeply worried on this issue and also insisting to use natural way of curing to get health & security.
Our vitiligo cure process is 100% Natural / herbal.

I beleave that mj is dead cause they just sat there and trow a memorial for the dude how stupid could you be a wast all dat money and it terns out he was not dead..thats BS to all the people out there that thinks he's alive you need to wake up case all i see is a whole lot of people fruntin
Whatever, i don't care what anyone says i beleve MJ. I belive that he had a skin condition, if you type in "Michael Jackson vitiligo pictures" to the search bar there is a picture of his hand and you can clearly see the blotches on his skin. And anyway, does it really matter what colour he was. As he said in his song "IT DON'T MATTER IF YOU'RE BLACK OR WHITE" and it really doesn't matter what colour your skin is, we are all equal and we are all the same.
R.I.P MJ "Gone too soon"
To CC (2 down) yes my thoughts exactly! What I think is that some people just don't want to accept the fact that MJ is dead. So they are making up all these stories saying that it's al fake and that MJ is still alive. It was very hard to take in that he was gone, but when it really hit me was at the memorial service when the coffin was brought in, and the final straw was when the coffin was wheeled out,the instrumental version of man in the mirror was playing, and Michael wasn't there to take centre stage to sing it. MJ will ALWAYS be alive through his music and will ALWAYS be with us in spirit.
R.I.P MJ "You are not alone" :-(
WOW!!! NOT TRUE AT ALL!!
I miss him soo much! I listen to his songs almost every day and its been so hard to accept that his gone! But he will live in my heart till my last days on this earth! He was a strong person with a great heart and so loving and giving! I never believed all them accusations about them boys! You have to hear real good to alot of his songs, they say a lot! He cared so much about children that he even wanted to have children to call his own! And about his skin problem, he did have vitiligo and you heard him say it on this video that his dad side has that and how wrong can it be for him to wanting to use make up to even out his skin from the changes that vitiligo was doing to his skin! I would of done the same thing and I'm not even famous! He will never be forgotten!!! MJ4EVER!!! "YOU ARE NOT ALONE"
I wonder how anyone can judge people by their skin color when one person can be both black and white, that without pigment a black man looks white.
Come on!Why do you become so mean to MJJ?Just leave him alone atleast now.
Tell us something we don't know. Tell us something that MATTERS.
Michael was a creative artistic genius who thought outside the box. Sure the glove helped to hide his vitiligo, but to attribute it only to that is ridiculous. (And is Cicely Tyson an authority?)
Michael was/is a unique individual. He strove to innovate. He did things, wore things, created, sang, and moved in ways that others only try to duplicate. He (and God) wanted us to take notice, hear his message of LOVE, look in the mirror and follow his example.
Why doesn't "everyone wonder why" he wore the tape on his fingers? Or the arm brace? Or the belts? The badges on his jackets? The fedora?
Or the armband on his right arm? HMMM.....
Charisse, now that the "mystery" of the glove has been solved, could you tell us the purpose of Michael's armband? Please include pictures. Hopefully they'll get more attention than the ones here. As I said, tell us something that MATTERS.
MJ - KING of LOVE
I love you mor
micheal jackson did not bleach himself because I have vitiligo myself and when I go to school some people make fun of me when I got there they call me:pinky, bleach lips, strawberry milk everything so don't talk about him.
