Calling all runners and walkers who want to strut their stuff in style while raising money for a good cause, head on over to The Walking Company’s two Providence, RI locations September 10 and 12 and check out an exclusive sneaker to benefit the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.
This year the foundation is debuting their first Gloria Gemma 10K in downtown Providence, and to help kick it off The Walking Company is helping participants move in comfort while showing off their inner pink with a brand new sneaker.
“The Walking Company is very proud to become partners in the fight against breast cancer with the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation,” Angela Johnson, Head of Retail Marketing of The Walking Company, tells this Examiner. “Our annual Walking For Hope campaign in the month of October benefits many local charities and foundations around the country, and we feel that Gloria Gemma is a perfect fit. Through the sales of our Pink Ribbon Collection, The Walking Company has donated over $325,000 to national and local charities since 2011. I am thrilled to have the addition of the Gloria Gemma Foundation this year, and look forward to a continued and growing partnership in the fight against breast cancer. Together we can make a difference!”
“As a local organization, it is truly exciting that national brands like The Walking Company have demonstrated their commitment to our mission of helping people right in our own community,” Maria Gemma, Executive Director of the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, tells this Examiner, “Our ability to help Rhode Islanders affected by breast cancer—a disease that one out of every six women in our state will be diagnosed with—is owed to our community partnerships. For that, we are fortunate and extremely appreciative of the continued support from Providence Place and its retailers.”
The Gloria Gemma 10K is equivalent to 6.21 miles in distance and will start and finish on Francis Street across from Providence Place Mall, Oct 13. The top three overall male and female finishers will receive awards. “With 2013 marking the fifth year of our Gloria Gemma 5K,” said Run/Walk Series Coordinator Lynn Simon, “we wanted to offer participants something fresh and exciting with this year’s Run/Walk Series line-up.”
