Issues in the News:
I. Global warming is the worst that has been seen since 11,000 years ago. That's a darn long time. It took 4000 years for the earth to warm 1.25 degrees C (which is over 2 degrees F) from 11,000 years ago to 7000 years ago. Tiny marine organisms were used to reconstruct the temperature ranges of the last 11,000 years.
Of course the corporate fossil fuel lobbies will either ignore this or attack this study. Their mouthpieces such as Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity, will do their appointed jobs.
II. There is going to be a new football stadium for the Atlanta Falcons to play in. By the way, their current stadium is only twenty years old. They are still making bond payments on it. While the taxpayers of Atlanta won't pay for the new stadium, hotel visitors to Atlanta definately will.
They will pay $200 million towards the new stadium, Only a rather small fraction of those visitors will attend a Falcons game. That $200 million could be spent directly for the people of Atlanta such as road repairs or new fire engines. But it will be spent to help make ultra rich people, much richer. Just more corporate welfare in America. Since the owner of the Falcons has so much money, spend his own.
III. Republicans (with one exception) in a U.S. Senate committee opposed raising prison terms on those who illegally buy guns (as straw purchasers) for those who are banned from buying firearms. I know the GOP is in the pocket of the largely gun maunfacturers financed NRA, but come on, people!
IV. Many Catholics disagree with the Catholic's Church position on condom use, priests marrying, women becoming priests or even same sex marriage. They favor these things, while the Church leadership (the only group that counts at all in the Church) does not. A question is, why continue in a church that opposes things you favor?
V. The Canadian government says the persecution of those for their religious beliefs around the world is a matter of concern, except if you are an atheist. If you are, good luck, the Canadian government does not care.
VI. Finally, an atheist billboard in Corpus Christi, Texas, that just stated to viewers that "Don't believe in God, you are not alone" generated comments such as "this is God's country, get them down, evil will happen in Corpus Christi." Yes, evil knows no greater chance for opportunity than saying that atheists aren't alone.
