The Orlando Museum of Art is currently offering Global Lens 2009 at the OMA, a unique series of award-winning foreign films to provide the community with a rare vision into other cultures and landscapes without needing a passport. This thought-provoking, dynamic collection of ten feature films originated in Argentina, Brazil, China, Ecuador, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Morocco, and Mozambique.
Global Lens 2009 is supported by Global Film Initiative [GFI], which encourages film-making in developing countries 'to promote cross-cultural understanding through the medium of cinema,' according to their website.
Understanding the cultures and traditions of others is not only very intellectually stimulating and interesting, but also can lead to peace among nations and ethnic groups by dispelling misunderstandings. Exposure to indie and foreign films also fosters the creativity of budding film creators and directors.
